Project Description

The Government of Solomon Islands has requested assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to strengthen senior secondary education to build climate and disaster resilience. This project will achieve this by reforming the curriculum in years 10 12 to make it more practical and equip students with the necessary foundational skills for continuous learning and future employment focusing on skills and jobs that foster resilience. The Project will update and construct new climateresilient facilities at 10 schools and strengthen management. It will also address barriers and challenges girls face piloting innovative gendertransformative activities and implementing a leadership and management program for aspiring female educators. The project is aligned with the following impact: all Solomon Islanders will develop as individuals and possess the knowledge skills and attitudes needed to earn a living and to live in harmony with others and their environment. The project will improve the quality relevance and genderresponsiveness of senior secondary education for a climateresilient economy.

Position Description

EDC is seeking a Gender Disability and Social Inclusion Curriculum Specialist to support subject matter experts in developing curriculum titles that promote gender equality disability inclusion and social inclusion. The Gender Disability and Social Inclusion Curriculum Specialists key tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Review new curriculum resources to ensure gender disability and social inclusion perspectives are appropriately integrated into both content and pedagogy.
  • Ensure the Business Enterprise subject incorporates content on womens participation in business financial literacy prevention of financial abuse and career guidance that encourages diverse career pathways.
  • Integrate lessons learned from pilot projects into curriculum development.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to curriculum developers and teachers on integrating gender disability and social inclusion into teaching materials.
  • Develop guidance notes and training materials for professional development initiatives.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of relevant actions and targets outlined in the National Gender and Social Inclusion Action Plan.
  • Assist in collecting data and reporting on the integration of gender disability and social inclusion in curriculum reforms.
  • Work closely with government agencies education stakeholders and civil society organizations to promote inclusive education practices.
  • Contribute to national and regional discussions on gender disability and social inclusion in education.
  • Prepare and contribute to monthly and quarterly reports on curriculum development progress.
  • Ensure adherence to work plans implementation schedules and key deliverables

This position is contingent upon award by the donor.

Candidates shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:


Qualifications :

Education:

Advanced degree in gender studies disability studies social inclusion studies education development studies sociology or a related field.

Skills and Experience:

    • At least 8 years of experience in gender equality disability and social inclusion projects.
    • Experience working within the national education sector including familiarity with national curriculum development processes.
    • Previous experience working at the secondary school level is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of national policies and frameworks on gender disability and social inclusion in education.

Language:

Professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English.
