TITLE: Library Teaching Assistant
LOCATION: Thomas Paine Elementary School
SUPERVISOR: Librarian and Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal
JOB SUMMARY: The library teaching assistant assists with the librarys ongoing operation and is supervised by the librarian.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential functions satisfactorily:
Patron Services
- Promotes a positive relationship with students staff and community
- Assists students and staff in their utilization of library materials and resources
- Responds to routine reference questions
- Supervises students following established behavioral guidelines
- Trains and oversees library volunteers
Operations
- Circulates materials using the automated system
- Generates/disseminates overdue reports and notices
- Shelves materials
- Assists in preparing displays and exhibits
- Helps maintain a safe attractive and inviting school library environment
- Implements efficient office procedures
Materials
- Follows established procedures in processing circulating and maintaining the collection
- Catalogs and processes new library materials and performs the necessary tasks to make the materials shelfready
- Assists with the weeding of materials
- Assists with annual inventory
- Assists with the organization inventory and maintenance of audiovisual materials
- Places online request to borrow materials from other libraries
- Repairs damaged materials
QUALIFICATIONS: To be issued a paraprofessional license one must meet all requirements for the position as designated by the ISBE. 60 hours of college credit or passing scores on a Basic Skills test arerequired.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary and Benefit information can be found on the Human Resources webpage. There are many opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation (stipends differentials extra duty pay etc.) during the regular school year and in the summer.
- This is a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
- This is not an exempt position.
- Student Contact Days and other days stipulated on the work calendar in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Urbana Board of Educations policy on evaluatingnoncertified staff.
