Early Childhood Licensing Requirement:Meets state licensing requirements for Caregiver

General Summary:

The Preschool Assistant (caregiver) provides ageappropriate activities and services to children enrolled in the Preschool program. This position reports directly to the Preschool Program Lead Caregiver. The Preschool Assistant is responsible for the duties described below:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Preschool Program Lead Caregiver:

  1. Provides childcare support services in a preschool classroom setting.
  2. Carries out educational and recreational activities.
  3. Performs attendance and other record keeping.
  4. Maintains discipline and brings behavior and/or discipline concerns to the Preschool Program Lead Caregiver.
  5. Cleans up the facility and playground during operational hours as necessary.
  6. Oversees outdoor recess/activities.
  7. Administers First Aid and completes necessary District and LARA incident report forms.
  8. Maintains positive public relations with children parents staff administration and community members.
  9. Maintains confidentiality with regard to student and family records and information.
  10. Follows and adheres to established safety standards.
  11. Participates in staff development activities as offered and/or required.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. High school graduate (18 years of age) with prior experience working/interacting with children.
  2. Some Early Childhood or Child Development college coursework highly preferred.
  3. Ability to provide safe and stimulating environment for large groups of children.
  4. Willing to work outofdoors in all types of weather.
  5. Ability to bend twist run and sit on the floor while performing daily tasks.
  6. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. while walking short distances.
  7. Ability to positively interact and communicate children parents colleagues and administrative staff.
  8. Able to comprehend process and apply information instructions and directives.
  9. Ability to speak comprehend write and read the English language.
  10. Possess current adult infant/child CPR and First Aid certification or willing to attain.
  11. A Tuberculosis Test Report showing evidence that staff member is free from communicable tuberculosis and is verified within 1 year before employment.
  12. Must complete 16.0 clock hours of professional development training per calendar year (January 1 through December 31). First aid and CPR training can count for up to 2.0 of the PD hours.
