EKG Technician Heart Monitoring Unit Internship Full Time Days

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a dedicated individual to join our NonInvasive Cardiology team. This is a unique entry level position for an individual who has a desire to advance to a medical career in diagnostic Cardiology and learn to analyze the electrical impulses of the heart. The Heart Monitoring Unit (HMU) Internship is a new program to train staff with little to no knowledge of cardiology to mentor and teach the skills required to become a NonInvasive Cardiology Technologist. The HMU Internship is no cost to you while working and contributing to the Department in a meaningful capacity. Our internship role is tied to a guaranteed NonInvasive Cardiology Technologist role in 6 months upon successful completion of the training program.

ShiftDetails:

  • First Shift 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM

  • FullTime (36 hours per week)

  • Three 12hour shifts per week

  • Varying days including weekends

Job Duties: EKG Technician Heart Monitoring Unit Internship

In this role youll gain handson experience performing adult and pediatric EKGs applying Holter monitors and cardiac event recorders. Youll interact directly with patients nurses staff and physicians while transcribing test results into our Electronic Health Record system. This role involves selfstudy with provided educational materials and youll complete the internship by passing a series of tests culminating in the NonInvasive Cardiology entrance exam. On shift youll be expected to study between performing EKGs. All coursework is provided at no cost.


Required Qualifications: EKG Technician Heart Monitoring Unit Internship

  • High school education or equivalent required.

  • Ability to work on call required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1 2023 or later)

  • Completion of internal training program within 6 months of hire required.

  • Be prepared to test into and qualify for a NonInvasive Cardiac Tech Role within 6 months of hire required.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications: EKG Technician Heart Monitoring Unit Internship

  • Two years experience in EKG preferred.

  • Medical experience preferred

  • College courses in physiology anatomy and/or related subjects preferred.

  • Associate of Science degree preferred.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of allied health/technology preferred.
