BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

With over 60 years experience in School Feeding WFP has a trajectory of working with more than 100 countries to set up sustainable national school feeding programmes. WFP is at the forefront of supporting governments in making sure that meals and health services reach the ones that need it the most.

Today millions of children living in poor and vulnerable communities dont have regular access to the nutritious food they need to stay healthy and thrive. This affects their physical and mental development and can keep them from finishing school and building the strong future they deserve.

In 2020 WFP has launched a 10year strategy for school feeding and in the fall of 2021 supported the launch of the School Meals Coalition. WFP advocates for the universal adoption of school feeding programmes as a safety net that helps increase childrens access to education and learning opportunities and supports their health and nutrition. WFP focuses increasingly on helping countries to establish and maintain nationally owned programmes. In countries still requiring WFPs operational support it implements school feeding programmes with clear hand over strategies.

The main objective of the School Meals and Social Protection Service (PPGS) in relation to school meals is to provide global leadership in support of school health and nutrition. The Service provides the knowledge practical support and guidance on quality school feeding. In addition the Service hosts the Secretariat of the School Meals Coalition.

As a Consultant in School Meals Coalition secretariat team you will gain experience in the humanitarian and development sector by working and contributing to a multidisciplinary team. You will support the communication and visibility of school meals with public and private partners to attract policy support commitment and mobilize resources.

Through your hands on and make it happen attitude and by sharing your own thoughts and ideas with the team you will contribute significantly to rallying partners to advance school feeding programmes worldwide and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential and thrive.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Coordinator of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat. the consultant will be expected to support the implementation of WFPs advocacy plan for the school meals team and support the visibility and partnership efforts of the School Meals Coalition by:

Coordinating and organizing webinars and highlevel events that help position school meals in the global agenda. This includes developing the concept of the events agendas slide decks talking points and notes for the record for WFP and the School Meals Coalition and supporting effective execution. Developing and disseminating WFP advocacy and communication tools including briefing packages and advocacy tool kits as well as factsheets and infographics to support fundraising and awareness activities. Supporting the coordination of the School Meals Coalition stakeholders group including by organizing partner meetings maintaining and disseminating essential documents; communicating with new members. Conceptualizing and developing a tracking mechanism for national commitments which can serve internal and external visibility purposes. Ensuring the knowledge management of the Coalition and compiling curating and maintaining a list of contacts for external and internal emailing purposes. Participating in meetings and engage with other functional units and COs developing content and language that speak to individual audiences. Any other duties in support of the School Meals Secretariat Coordinator or of other teams in the division.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

First University degree in Social Science Journalism International Relations Public Relations Communications or relevant field.

Experience:

3 year of related experience in communication partnerships or advocacy
