Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
To organize manage lead and monitor the Cannon County School District Exceptional
Learners Program
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to
perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.
Masters degree
Threefive years administrative experience (preferred)
Valid teaching license with special education endorsement
Valid professional license with appropriate administrator/supervisor endorsement
REPORTS TO: Director of Schools
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

1. Exempt: Employees primarily performing work that is not subject to overtime
provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Overtime pay is not required by FLSA
for exempt employees; however the University chooses to pay overtime to exempt
NonV Class employees.
Or
2. Nonexempt: Employees primarily performing work that is subject to the
overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Overtime pay is required.

SEE: Exceptional Educators General Educators Educational Assistants
Speech/Language Pathologists School Psychologists Contracted Personnel and provides
support for principals.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this job. These
are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and
assigned as needed.
Organize and lead the Department of Exceptional Learners initiatives
Coordinate supervise and evaluate the Exceptional Learner Program including
certificated and noncertificated Special Education personnel
resources/materials/equipment and students Individual Education Plans
Ensure compliance under all state and federal mandates including but not limited to
IDEA and ESEA
Serve as district Section 504 Coordinator
Serve as district Homebound Coordinator
In collaboration with the principal interview and hire certificated and noncertificated
Special Education employees and assign employees within the program as needs dictate
Assist the principal with employee evaluations as requested or as appropriate
Collaborate and coordinate with systemwide administrators supervisors principals and
specialists in the implementation of quality instructional programming
Teacher evaluations
Abide by the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics
Assist with the systemwide regular education prereferral and intervention process (via
the Response to Intervention approach utilized through the Cannon County School
District Support Team Process)
Assist with the Tennessee Comprehensive Systemwide Planning Process and with
individual School Improvement Planning
Serve as a liaison between the regular and special education programs by attending and
participating in appropriate meetings committees and initiatives
Confer with personnel responsible for school/system accountability programs and ensure
proper implementation of IDEA and ESEA requirements
Plan facilitate and implement staff development and professional growth experience for
Special Education teachers principals administrative staff and parents consistent with
teacher and program evaluation outcomes
Confer with and assist teachers on a onetoone basis as well as small groups in
organizational compliance instructional and management techniques
Oversee the Special Education budgetary and operational components of the Special
Education Program
Monitor and ensure the Special Education Programs effectiveness on a regular basis
Develop administrative procedures and prepare state and federal reports per compliance
mandates
Serve as a representative and advisor to community and/or system organizations as
appropriate

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job may require lifting or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds with frequent
lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twentyfive (25) pounds. Other physical
demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling stooping and/or kneeling
reaching and/or handling talking hearing seeing and climbing.
WORK CONDITIONS: Normal working environment.
