PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Work with parents school personnel and juvenile officers to improve student attendance; investigate reasons for irregular attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid Drivers License

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Effective organizational communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills

Ability to problem solve and prioritize

Basic math skills

Excellent reading and grammatical skills

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Suite

Attention to fine details

Ability to meet deadlines

Proof of typing >40 WPM

Must have a genuine interest and desire to help youth

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and

peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including prolonged keyboarding & use of mouse;

occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 40 pounds)

Environment: May work with frequent interruptions; must maintain professional demeanor

under stress; Frequent Districtwide travel must have own transportation

Regular attendance is an essential function.

Minimum Experience:

Appropriate experience as required by supervisor

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Work closely with principals assistant principals and counselors regarding students who are absent or tardy too frequently and who have not responded to the corrective efforts made by the building principal.
  2. Serve as liaison between the schools and the parents the courts community agencies and police authorities.
  3. Check students personal file before any investigation or action and confer with others who may be involved.
  4. Initiate petitions and provide records from formal hearings.
  5. Attends court hearings when cases are presented and attendance is requested.
  6. Help organize efforts to carry out court ordered parent/student training regarding the importance of attendance such as the Parent and Student Training (PST).
  7. Serve as a liaison between court and the school system in cases where students have been delinquent outside of school.
  8. Make home visits in regard to attendance problems.
  9. Follow up personal contacts with letters to parents advising them of the provision of the Texas Compulsory School Law.
  10. Participate in case conferences with juvenile authorities.
  11. Conduct campus audits of Truancy Prevention Measures four times a year.
  12. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  13. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  14. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
