Job Description

JOB TITLE: Bus Monitor WAGE/HOURSTATUS: Nonexempt

REPORTS TO: Associate Directorfor Transportation

DEPT./SCHOOL: Transportation DATE REVISED: November 2020

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Ride buses and assist driver to provide safe and orderly transportation of students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas drivers license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to follow verbal instruction and communicate effectively

Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment

Ability to work well with children

Experience:

Experience preferred but not required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Assist in loading and unloading of students according to their individual needs.
  2. Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
  3. Assume responsibilities for learning and adapting to each students special medical physical communicative andemotional needs.
  4. Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis about student behavior while on the bus.
  5. Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid if necessary.
  6. Stay current with Special Needs training.
  7. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
  8. Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on a regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
  9. Help driver keep bus clean.
  10. Assist substitute drivers with route directions and student stop locations.
  11. Comply with district policy and procedure.
  12. Perform other duties and repsonsibilities as assignedby the supervisor.
  13. Duties may include driving a district vehicle to include cars suburban for the purposes of student transportation and other operational duties.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Wheelchair lift ramp lock and special needs adaptive equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:

Maintain emotional control ability to communicate effectively ability to maintain effective control over groups of students.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent walking stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying. Moderate lifting (over 40 lbs.) bending stooping climbing and turning of the head and shoulders. Work outside and inside; work around machinery with moving parts and vehicles; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (hot) and vehicle fumes.
