PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Ready to trade your office chair for the great outdoors and a shovel The City of Aurora seeks a witty and energetic VHBE Volunteer Coordinator to lead our park and forestry heroes. Youll be the bootsontheground supervisor training volunteers on everything from trail maintenance to planting while ensuring everyone stays safe and has a blast. Get ready to deliver tools manage inventories and perform manual labor right alongside your crews tackling projects from weed control to planting native species. If youve got experience leading outdoor workgroups and arent afraid of a little (or a lot of) physical labor even on weekends or in varying weather we want to hear from you. Plus you get to drive city vehicles and maybe even clear some snow just dont forget your sturdy boots and winning smile.

This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible) where the selected candidate will work an average of 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical Dental and Vision Benefits as well as accrue paid time off and receive 10 paid holidays

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications; as soon as we determine that we have a qualified pool of applicants this position may close quickly and without notice.

The hiring rate for this position is $27.26 $34.08/hour.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the Departments Volunteer program is guided by Auroras Core 4 principles: respect integrity professionalism and customer service.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive recruitment orientation training retention and recognition plan for individual and group volunteers to ensure that all volunteers are knowledgeable and feel valued. Supervision of volunteer efforts is delegated to the team in the area where the volunteers are assigned.
  • Match volunteers to opportunities that meet the needs of the Department and suit their skill sets
  • Develop and maintain complete and accurate records including volunteer policies procedures position descriptions standards of conduct and where applicable criminal background checks.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate collateral materials for recruitment of volunteers.
  • Develop and provide to management monthly and annual reports on all individual and group volunteer activities to include number of volunteers number of hours and inkind contribution value of service.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all requests to volunteer/collaborate including telephone voice mail email and written requests and ensure a timely response.
  • Participate in the planning of community events to promote APDs volunteer program and promote community engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with collaborative partners both internal and external ensuring that mutually agreed upon expectations are being met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge skills and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in human services public service nonprofit management community development or other related fields.

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years progressively responsible experience in volunteer management or human/community services within a nonprofit or government entity.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and techniques of program planning development and administration
  • Practices and techniques of volunteer coordination
  • Community/public relations

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated capabilities in public relations and communications

Abilities:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees volunteers citizens nonprofit & governmental agencies and city officials
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Plan organize and implement volunteer programs
  • Supervise and direct the work of volunteers
  • Work some weekends and nights

Licenses:

  • Valid Colorado Drivers license required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Physical work lifting up to 30 pounds;
  • Lifting carrying walking and standing.
  • Hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and officeequipment
  • Clear vision to read reports and other written material
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees volunteers and citizens

Work Environment:

  • Works indoors in office setting when conducting administrative and planning component of program
  • Works outdoors with exposure to varying types of weather dust and noise due to community events.

Equipment Used:

  • Frequently uses standard office equipment including personal computers calculators and copy/fax machine.
  • This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle cell phone tools etc.) during employment.
