Job Description

The research group of Prof. Sandra Ciesek is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team as soon as possible for four years with the option for extension (Salary according to TVH E13 100%). Our research aims to improve the understanding of hostpathogen interactions of clinically relevant RNA viruses to explore novel therapeutic strategies by combining cuttingedge molecular biology techniques with translational approaches. One main focus is the investigation of novel host factors for Hepatitis E virus from omics data. Other topics are the in vitro assessment of immune patterns antibody responses as well as antiviral and cellular responses upon Dengue virus infection or Dengue vaccination. The candidate will also be encouraged to develop additional research projects in alignment with the labs core interests. The work will be conducted at the Institute of Medical Virology offering stateoftheart research possibilities including wellequipped labs in biosafety level 2 and 3 facilities. Our research is highly collaborative so we expect the candidate to be committed to promoting knowledge management and be a strong team player.

Your Role:

  • Conduct innovative research projects focusing on clinically relevant RNA viruses.
  • Independently develop and perform cell culture infection experiments with biosafety 2 and 3 pathogens.
  • Within specific projects mentor and train undergraduate and PhD students and cooperate with technicians.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with virologists medical doctors or biochemists.
  • Present findings in scientific meetings and publish research in highimpact journals.
  • The applicant will closely work with the lab and science management and receive technical support.
  • PhD in virology infectious diseases or a related field. Strong publication record.
  • Strong background in virology molecular biology and cell biology.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques and complex cell culture models. Experiences in immunology are a benefit.
  • Handson experience with pathogens up to BSL3.
  • Excellent analytical data reporting and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently while collaborating in an interdisciplinary setting.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (German is a plus but not required).
  • Due to legal regulations valid proof of measles immunity / measles vaccination is required.
