The Role

Are you an enthusiastic and experienced reporter ready to join our creative and dedicated team in Mackay We are seeking a reporter to create content for broadcast social media and online platforms to engage and inform audiences.

The position is based in Mackay but serves a region including Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays the mining region west to Moranbah and Dysart and agricultural areas south to Sarina and St Lawrence. It is a diverse region with fishing snorkelling rainforests and tropical islands on your doorstep. The region boasts more than 30 beaches a thriving arts community and other great lifestyle opportunities.

The Job

We are looking for a dynamic and driven reporter to create news content for multiple platforms. Reporting to the Editor ABC Tropical North the role will involve:

  • Creating multiplatform content under routine Editor direction and with colleagues
  • Presenting news bulletins Q&As interviews and breaking stories across platforms
  • Supporting Local Emergency Coverage and liaise with stakeholders as needed
  • Developing local content for sharing with News teams and across ABC platforms
  • Promoting ABC values and follow workplace policies and guidelines

About You

You are a highly motivated reporter with a strong knowledge of local and national news issues. Your skills and experience include:

  • Journalism qualification or equivalent experience
  • Strong editorial and live broadcast skills
  • Knowledge of local audience issues
  • Passion for diverse authentic Australian stories
  • Current and valid drivers licence
