Flood Control DistrictAbout the Position
This position will perform a variety of professional civil engineering activities related to hydrology and hydraulics and serve as a subject matter expert for Flood Control District projects. These projects include construction/rehabilitation of flood control structures (dams levees bridges culverts and open channels) area drainage master studies floodplain use and rightofway permits and more. Projects may be inhouse or in collaboration with other government agencies contractors or the public. The employee will have the opportunity to utilize a variety of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering software both as a reviewer and in the development of new models.

We Require
Bachelors degree in a workrelated engineering discipline such as but not limited to Civil Engineering Hydraulic Engineering Water Resources Engineering Hydrology or Fluid Mechanics
Two years of professional engineering work experience as a hydraulic engineer drainage design engineer water resources engineer or general civil engineer with a strong background in hydrology hydraulics and river mechanics
Registration as a professional engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration or by the technical board of another state with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment
We Also Value
Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification
Direct experience in reviewing and/or developing hydrologic and hydraulic models using HECRAS (1D and 2D) HECHMS HEC1 FLO2D EPA SWMM Bentley CulvertMaster and ArcGIS Pro
Job Contributions
Review and approve hydrologic and hydraulic submittals for engineering design reports and plans specifications computer models calculations and results for all Flood Control District engineering and planning projects such as dam rehabilitation levee construction and repair bridges open channels capital improvement projects area drainage master studies/plans floodplain use permits rightofway permit etc.
Perform inhouse hydrologic and hydraulic analysis studies computer modeling and engineering design to support the Flood Control Districts projects
Ensure projects are in compliance with the Flood Control District and Maricopa County regulations as well as any regulations and requirements from FEMA USACE or other regulatory entities
Represent the Flood Control District in meetings with other governmental agencies consultants/contractors and the public as a subject matter expert responding to internal and external requests (including public records requests) and providing technical recommendations/assistance
Field reconnaissance may occasionally be part of this job to obtain the information related to hydrology and hydraulics
Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customerfacing for all hours worked
Exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time
Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
