What youll do...

The Fuel Cell Electrical Research Engineer will have the key responsibility to design develop and integrate high voltage and low voltage electrical components within the fuel cell system and hydrogen storage system. In particular the role will involve the electrical engineering and calibration of the fuel cell and hydrogen storage component electrical interfaces and power electronics including the power transfer unit inverters and controllers.



Responsibilities

This is an opportunity to participate in the research and advanced engineering of the fuel cell and hydrogen storage technology at Ford. The mission of the Ford Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Storage Research team is to develop an efficient competitive and robust fuel cell and hydrogen storage system technologies for a series production program. This position will focus on the development of robust electrical system designs prompt fault resolution and generation of innovative solutions for emerging technical challenges. The individual will be part of a collaborative team working with other Ford development engineers and suppliers for the benefit of the environment sustainability and electrification strategy at Ford Motor Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Research & develop low voltage and high voltage electrical architectures for fuel cell systems and hydrogen storage systems including establishing requirements optimize design solutions and validate hardware.
  • Develop low voltage and high voltage wiring schematics for prototype fuel cell systems and hydrogen storage systems for both test stand and vehicle applications
  • Oversee electrical designs and harnesses for prototype fuel cell systems and hydrogen storage systems
  • Conduct research on fuel cell system high voltage topology including high voltage power electronic design
  • Develop/test power electronics and electronic components for fuel cell systems and hydrogen storage systems including controllers inverters sensors switches electromechanical actuators motors. and wiring.
  • Support Ford fuel cell system and hydrogen storage system research development and failure mode avoidance for engineering milestones and advancing the technology.
  • Conduct and support testing of fuel cell stacks and systems including data analysis
  • Support the development of fuel cell system and hydrogen storage system research analytical models



Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering: Electrical or related degree or foreign equivalency degree or a combination of equivalent experience and education
  • 5 years of experience in fuel cell system stack and/or hydrogen storage systems.
  • 3 years of experience in automotive electrical design including wiring of actuators sensors and controllers
  • 3 years of experience with high voltage applications working with power electronics contactors high voltage connectors high voltage cables ground fault protection fusing and/or safety interlocks
  • Experience with low voltage automotive electrical system design digital communication protocols such as CAN SENT and electrical system testing
  • Knowledge of LabView MatLab Simulink and circuit design software
  • Experience working with cross functional teams and driving product development issues to resolution

This position is a salary grade 6.
