POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Principal has administrative responsibilitiesfor and supports the Principal of Mercer Island High School.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Establishes and Maintains a Culture of Improvement
- Articulates a clear vision as to how instruction is delivered for special education students.
- Assists with the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan.
- Assists with planning and facilitating professional development opportunities as directed by the Principal.
- Supports the Principal in promoting schoolwide trust and rapport for all stakeholders.
- Assists in implementation of systemwide changes.
Provides a safe school environment
- Keeps up to date and maintains specific rules and procedures related to harassment bullying intimidation and other discipline concerns.
- Handles student discipline as determined and outlined by the Principal.
- Leads the development implementation and evaluation of a data driven plan for increasing positive student behavior
- Ensures that data are analyzed interpreted and used to regularly monitor progress toward achievement goals for individual students receiving support services.
- Monitors implementation of IEP and 504 accommodations.
Assists instructional staff with alignment of curriculum instruction and assessment with state and local district learning goals
- Works collaboratively with the Principaland other school leaders to coordinate programming specifically with special education and other support classes.
- Provides training and support for classified staff working within the classroom setting.
Monitors assists and evaluates effective instruction and assessment practices
- Uses the Danielson Instructional Framework for Teachers to evaluate improve and honor instructional practices.
- Supervises staff as assigned by the Principal.
- Adheres to the collective bargaining agreement.
Manages staff and fiscal resources to support student achievement and legal responsibilities
- Manages classified staff resources.
Partners with the school community to promote student achievement
- Works collaboratively with PTSA to welcome new families to the school.
- Works collaboratively with the community to provide service opportunities for students.
- Connects with families to promote and celebrate student recognition.
Demonstrates commitment to closing the achievement gaps
- Articulates and monitors school goals that focus on student and schoolwide Tiers of Intervention for student behavior (PBIS).
- Establishes and maintains interventions for all learners based on student achievement data as directed by the Principal.
Other general responsibilities
- Follows all other Board Policies contract requirements and administrative procedures
- Participates and delegates as necessary in the timely completion of IEPs district reports employee evaluations budgets staffing documentation and other required reporting responsibilities.
- Maintains a visible presence throughout the school and attends school events as appropriate.
- Assiststhe Principalin designing and implementing a building master schedule that allows students to achieve at appropriate levels while balancing the needs of teachers and students.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provides supervision of certificated and classified staff as directed by the Principal.

Education and/or Experience
- Masters degree or higher and school administrative experience preferred.
- Valid Washington State Principals credential required.
- Experienced with systemwide change preferably in the areas of RTI and/or PBIS.

Physical Demands
Work is generally performed in an office setting. Position requires frequent meetings beyond regular business hours and flexible hours; frequently required to deal with distraught or angry people; required to represent the district to parents community or the media on potentially and/or very controversial matters; visual and mental concentration required to analyze and synthesize complex collections of data; high level of organizational skill required; high level of interaction with others through communication; can have heavy meeting schedule; routine interruptions with work can be expected; use of and exposure to computer and visual display terminal for prolonged periods.
