Position: Groundsperson
Tenure: Part Time Permanent Position
Salary Range:$33.76 $34.66 per hour pending experience
Hours: 1520 hours a week
Commencing:As soon as practicable
Closing Date: Monday 26 May 2025 unless filled prior

About the role
St Josephs Catholic School Mount Isa are seeking applications from a hardworking and passionate is a part time permanent position commencing as soon as practicable and working 1520 hours per week.
The Groundsperson contributes to the effective and efficient operation of St Josephs Catholic School Mount Isa by providing a high level of maintenance and development of the facilities. The Groundsperson will work within a team to provide resource management a safe and pleasant environment for students and employees and create a physical environment that is conducive to learning and safe student movement. The Groundsperson ensures that a high standard of safe play area is maintained.

Our commitment to these standards requires that we conduct working with children checks and background referencing for all persons who will engage in direct and regular involvement with children and young people and/or adultsatrisk. Key Accountabilities
- Basic maintenance (including preventative maintenance) to equipment grounds and gardens in accordance with schedules and routines or as directed by the Principal including:
- Lawn and garden establishment and maintenance
- Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
- Operation of a specialised range of machinery for example ride on mower GOAT pole and chain saws
- Use of herbicides and pesticides compliant with safe work practices
- Control and maintenance of stores and facilities
- Assisting with building maintenance painting general clean and washing down of facilities
- Carry out minor repairs to the schools property and equipment as requested
- Assist with the setup and dismantling equipment for school functions
- Ensuring all work tasks comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements by liaising with the WHS Officer/Principal
- Other duties as determined by the Principal/ WHS Officer.
About You
Experience
- Competent in the use and/or maintenance of equipment typically used in grounds/maintenance services
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain gardens and lawn areas
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills with students parents teachers and school administrators
- Demonstrated ability to assess repairs quickly to enable maximum safety and to comply with Workplace Health and Safety legislation
- Demonstrates a positive approach towards maintaining a high standard of service.
Skills
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety and antidiscriminatory practices as applied in an education work environment
- Ability to ensure a high standard of safety and due diligence applies to all areas of work
- Ability to work independently and with others as a team member.

Mandatory Criteria/Professional Registration/Other
- Current Working with Children Suitability Card The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.
- Undertake Workplace Health and Safety Training
- Current Drivers Licence
- Ability to travel within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
- This position will be subject to a preemployment medical assessment to support the selection process.
Desirable Criteria
- Relevant certificate or trade qualifications.
