Summary
The CEI Inspector is responsible for monitoring the daily activities of asphalt concrete and earthwork for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials meet specifications. Position will perform engineering inspection activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt concrete and earthwork for construction applications. The inspector will record daily notes for the engineering staff.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for familiarity with the Departments Procedures covering the projectrelated duties as stated above and proficient in the computer programs necessary to perform those duties.
- Responsible for receiving general supervision from and assisting the Senior Inspector and Project Engineer in the performance of their duties.
Qualifications
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
- Must pass preemployment screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- ICE is a drugfree workplace.
Education & Experience Requirements
CEI Inspector:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two (2) years of construction inspection experience preferred with at least one (1) year of roadway or bridge construction experience.
- EIT preferred with a degree in engineering engineering technology or construction management. (EITs must obtain required certifications within one year.)
- FDOT experience required preferably for District 5.
CEI Senior Inspector:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- With a qualifying degree (engineering engineering technology or construction management): minimum of one (1) year of CEI experience.
- Without a qualifying degree: minimum of four (4) years of CEI experience.
- FDOT experience required preferably for District 5.
- Experience coordinating inspection teams is preferred.
Certification Requirements (based on assignment scope)
Candidates must possess or be able to obtain the following certifications at the time of Notice to Proceed (NTP):
- CTQP Final Estimates Level I
- CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
- CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level II (Senior Inspector)
- CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
- CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level II (Senior Inspector)
- CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
- CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level II (Senior Inspector)
- CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
- CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection
- CTQP Grouting Technician Level I (Senior Inspector)
- CTQP PostTensioning Technician Level I (Senior Inspector)
- IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I
- FDOT Intermediate MOT
- Nuclear Radiation Safety
- Florida Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Certification
Physical Demands
The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking standing bending and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects and proficiency in recognizing sound tone and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions including hot cold and noisy settings and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.
Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule.
