DEPARTMENT: Undergraduate Studies in Education
POSITION TITLE:Lecturer Pool Undergraduate Studies in Education
POSITION DETAILS:
Through our programs in Child and Adolescent Development Deaf Studies and Undergraduate GE and Education courses our mission is to improve the quality of life for children families and the community. Our faculty seek to promote academic success in a diverse student population. Our students develop competencies related to their academic and professional lives becoming responsible advocates for children and families through sound academic preparation in their major field of study. The branch is committed to advancing thecampuswide commitment to antiracism and inclusion. As an anchor institution within the diverse Sacramento region we prepare individuals to be agents of change committed to social justice equity and inclusion in culturally and linguistically diverse schools and communities.
We have periodic openings for parttime lecturers to teach undergraduate courses in the following areas:
- Child and Adolescent Development including lower and upper division courses in social cognitive and language development sociocultural and historical contexts of development qualitative and quantitative methods specialized courses in policy and brain development and fieldwork/service learning courses.
- Deaf Studies including all levels of ASL following the Signing Naturally curriculum specialized courses in ASL Fingerspelling & Numbers and ASL Classifiers and depending on the applicants area of expertise upperdivision courses in the areas of Deaf History Deaf Culture & Community ASL Literature ASL Linguistics Special Topics in Deaf Studies and Experiences in Deaf Community: Dynamics of Oppression and Building Allyship.
- General Education including lower division courses in critical thinking and quantitative reasoning and upper division GE courses in Multicultural Childrens literature Urban Education Sex Role Stereotyping in American Education and Tutoring/Service learning.
Duties of a parttime lecturer include instruction class preparation grading and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments including dates time and modality are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Parttime lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns changes to tenuretrack faculty assignments and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs funding and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester.
Rank and Salary
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department.
Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024 the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5507 $6677
Lecturer B: $6221 $13224
Lecturer C: $6825 $14523
Lecturer D: $8593 $15211
The salary ranges indicated are based on a fulltime rate (15 weighted teaching units WTUs). A semesters worth of compensation is made up of six (6) payments of the given amount. To calculate your salary for a semester the base rate would be prorated based on the units worked out of 15 WTUs. If you were a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary your pay would be structured as follows: $5507 x 3/15 (3 units out of a possible 15 units total) $1101.40 x 6 checks $6608.40 total for 3 units/semester.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters in the field you seek to apply or closely related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate; for instructional faculty: prior experience in the field you are applying; for field experience instructional positions: experience mentoring or coaching and related professional experience in similar field placements.

Per CSUwide policy (HR202104) all faculty who will begin initial employment (or return from a 12month break in service) on or after January 1 2022 are required to perform their work from within the State of California. Faculty hired prior to January 1 2022 must be available to perform work in the State of California if their assignment is inperson.
