Job Description

The Dudley St. School is currently seeking a Special Education and English Language Learners (ELL) Teacher to join our community. Our teachersOur teachers possess deep academic content knowledge hold high expectations for all students create an inclusive learning environment and have strong communication/interpersonal skills. As a Teaching Academy all teachers will be expected to contribute to a vibrant professional learning community to reflect on and improve their own practice and to mentor train and develop resident teachers.About Dudley St. SchoolDudley Street Neighborhood Charter School operates within the Boston Public Schools as a Horace Mann indistrict charter school. We opened our doors in 2012 and now serve over 300 students in grades PreK5. Founded by the Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE) and the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI) we work with local partners to ensure all children in the Dudley neighborhood have access to a highquality education. Dudley Street School is a BPE Teaching Academy part of a PreK12 neighborhood school pathway that includes Dearborn STEM Academy (G612). Modeled after teaching hospitals teaching academies serve as training sites for aspiring teachers participating in the Boston Teacher Residency program. All staff at Dudley Street School work collaboratively to enact ambitious teaching and learning in service of student achievement goals.Dudley Street School Instructional Practices. Our teachers:
  • Build a culture where every student matters participates and engages in academic discourse.
  • Maintain a consistent focus on student reasoning.
  • Assess students understanding every day to inform instructional decisions.
  • Ensure students read and write in all content areas in meaningful ways on a regular basis.
  • Integrate and connect language instructional strategies classroom routines structures and academic expectations to our essential habits of mind: perseverance problem solving independence creativity collaboration and selfdetermination.
Key Position Responsibilities:
  • Provide integrated service delivery of special education and ESL services within the context of an inclusion model in order to provide a respectful and engaging school environment for all students.
  • Collaborate and communicate with students content teacher(s) to align instruction and support to both the students English language development and their classroom instructional needs (instructions vocabulary reading and writing support and clarification of assignments).
  • Collaborate and communicate with the schools instructional leadership team instructional coaches and administration to ensure identified students receive language support and other forms of academic assistance.
  • Participate in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and other relevant meetings. Promote ambitious IEP goalsetting and work diligently to ensure that students meet planned objectives.
  • Assist with the oversight and delivery of ACCESS testing for all ELL students.
  • Maintain appropriate records and data to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Prepare for and assist with organization of ELL and special education student transition meetings for those ready to transition out of ELL and special education services.
  • Plan and deliver lessons utilizing the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Benchmarks and Outcomes and deliver appropriate lessons for varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use effective and culturallyrelevant instructional practices. Integrate technology into the classroom as an instructional tool and for personal productivity.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and fluency with the DSNCS ESL Curriculum and the Massachusetts DOE English Language Proficiency Benchmarks and Outcomes (ELPBO).
  • Assist classroom teachers in the administration of all mandated state and local assessments for English language learners whenever appropriate.
  • Attend district and statesponsored professional development opportunities sufficient to stay current with changes in ELL and special education instruction and improvements in teaching strategies.
Qualifications
  • Deep belief in the Dudley St School mission and vision.
  • Valid MA Teacher Licensures: License in ESL at the appropriate grade level required and additional licensure in Moderate Disabilities
  • SEI endorsement
  • Strong knowledge of ESL laws regulations and proven practices
  • Ability to collaborate with a team of teachers and residents to meet a wide range of student skill ability and developmental levels in mixedgrade setting
  • Committed to using data and evidence to inform planning and instructional strategies
  • Strong instructional skills; demonstrated mastery of and enthusiasm for subject matter
  • Enthusiastic to reflect and grow (and help others to do the same) via coaching and feedback
  • Education: Hold a Bachelors degree
  • Current authorization to work in the United States Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
