ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:The Disability & Attendance Management Specialist is responsible for administering the
organizations disability and attendance management programs. This role involves collaborating
with Human Resources Business Partners to develop return to work plans and medical
accommodations. The Specialist will work with employees managers healthcare providers and
external stakeholders to ensure the efficient processing of shortterm disability claims and the
effective administration of the attendance management program.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:- Manage all nonoccupational shortterm disability and weekly indemnity claims from startto end including working with Human Resources Business Partner and Managers tofoster early and safe return to work opportunities
- Ensure fair and consistent application of policy legislation collective agreementprovisions and best practices
- Ensure benefits provided to employees during their disability period are accurate andbased on their entitlement as per their collective agreement or the policy
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders such as managers and 3rd partyadjudicators regarding shortterm disability claims and accommodations
- Timely transition of the employee through the different stages of leave continuum
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure cohesive disabilitymanagement and identify and assess potential risks related to workplace disabilities anddevelop mitigation strategies
- Communicate effectively with employees management union representatives andother stakeholders to address concerns and provide updates
- Administer and maintain attendance management processes including the consistentand fair application and utilization of forms/templates
- Provide informed or datadriven recommendations for changes or improvements inrelevant policies procedures and programs
- Maintain disability management and attendance support programs and policies toenhance support and efficiency
- Collect and analyze absenteeism data identify employees who exceed the absenteeismthreshold for enrollment in the attendance management and support program
- Monitor employees progress while on the program providing timely updates to HRBPsand managers as required
REQUIREMENTS:- University degree in Human Resources Management
- CHRP and/or CDMP (Certified Disability Management Professional) designation ispreferred
- 2 3 years experience in disability claims management
- 2 3 years experience in attendance management
- At least 2 years of work experience in human resources support roles in a unionizedenvironment
- Experience working with collective agreements is preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of disability management best practices
- Understanding of employment related legislation such as: Canada Labour CodeOccupational Health and Safety Act Canadian Human Rights Act and Accessibilitylegislation
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) for reporting anddocumentation
- Available for occasional travel within ONTC service territory
- Coaching abilities to provide advice and guidance to all levels of management and otheremployees
- Ability to engage manage difficult conversations and influence outcomes
- Ability to successfully manage timelines keeping in mind the needs of the business
- Commitment to health and safety
