In this position you will play a pivotal role in shaping the Departments public image fostering strong relationships with our constituents and ensuring clear and effective communication of our mission and goals. Reporting to the Director of External Affairs you will be instrumental in developing and implementing outreach strategies managing our digital presence including our websites and serving as a key point of contact for media and stakeholders. This position is a critical part of our communications team whose work helps us spread the word about the many facets of MDP.

POSITION DUTIES
The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) provides guidance analysisoutreach and support to ensure all of the states natural resources built environmentand public assets are preserved and protected to achieve its goals for economiccommunity and environmental vitality. This is done in partnership with other stateagencies local jurisdictions and nongovernmental organizations. Within MDPthe External Affairs team (EA) manages all communication efforts. This includes allfactors related to its digital presence and serves as the point of contact for pressinquiries (PIOs) PIAs and other interactions with external entities. The DigitalCommunications Manager has responsibility for managing the Departments digitalpresence including websites social media platforms content creation brandconsistency and performance analyzation. To accomplish this the positioncoordinates and directs MDPs outreach internal and external communications andconstituent services by developing and maintaining digital media content practicesand protocols marketing programs and outreach strategy. This position also servesas the secondary point of contact with the press; provides communications toexternal constituencies including planning professionals and media; and managesoutreach to the Departments constituents. The Digital Communications Managerserves as the webmaster for MDP ensuring updated content maintenance of pagesand general oversight of its content functionality and user experience. This positionserves a crucial role in conveying the agencys as well as the administrationsmission and vision throughout all of its communications means.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelors degree or other advanced degree.
Experience: Two years of experience in the communications and/or web management field.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in website development and management.
- Experience in Drupal is a plus.
- Experience in any or all of the following: Adobe Creative Cloud: Premiere Pro Illustrator and Photoshop. SharePoint 2019 and SharePoint Designer for websites HTML in Visual Studio Code Hootsuite Zoom GovDelivery SharePoint 365 for Intranet Google Analytics 4 and Google Looker Studio.
- Experience with production printing with Fiery Command Workstation.
- Experience with all social media platforms.
- Experience in database management.
- Experience with management of hybrid/virtual meeting platforms.
- Experience in writing content for websites promotional materials etc.
