As a Distinguished Engineer at Capital One you will be a part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud.

Distinguished Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies platforms and capability domains creating clear and concise communications code samples blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:
Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for your domain
Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions
Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation
Serve as an authoritative expert on nonfunctional system characteristics such as performance scalability and operability
Continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community
Handle several projects simultaneously balancing your time to maximize impact
Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and knowhow of our engineering and product community
Lead datafocused architecture and integration strategy across multiple Capital One domains. Responsibilities will include defining standardized integration patterns design/creation of data products and ensuring a focus on encryption quality and governance.
Work with engineering teams to ensure creation/maintenance of scalable and performant realtime/nearreal time data pipelines for analytical and ML/AI usage.
Pair with teams building dataintensive APIbased services to make intentional choices related to input/output (IO) operations such as storage retrieval and data processing.
Identify and act on opportunities for application reuse and consolidation both within your domain and by providing or consuming capabilities from other domains or lines of business.
Ensure architecture decisions are clearly reasoned documented and communicated within your line of business and across lines of business.
Lead handson problem solving activities through the software delivery lifecycle from planning to maintenance ensuring that all voices are heard and understood while driving to timely realistic solutions.
Promote an inclusive culture of engineering excellence and being wellmanaged using opportunities to inner source solutions where possible.
Influence Product/Tech/Cyber stakeholders to balance excellence with doing the right thing on key technical decisions.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
At least 7 years of experience in software or data engineering
At least 3 years of experience in data architecture
At least 2 years of experience building applications in AWS
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree
9 years of experience in software or data engineering
3 years of data modeling experience
2 years of experience with ontology standards for defining a domain
2 years of experience using Python SQL or Scala
1 year of experience deploying machine learning models
3 years of experience implementing big data processing solutions on AWS

The minimum and maximum fulltime annual salaries for this role are listed below by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for parttime roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean VA: $263900 $301200 for Distinguished EngineerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
