Join our team as Controller and drive financial excellence at Clean Energy Fund of Texas!


Reporting to our CFO youll lead our accounting audit grants management and financial reporting functions across a growing portfolio of federally funded clean energy initiatives philanthropic capital and general operating resources. You will ensure compliance transparency and fiscal integrity while supporting the strategic and operational goals of the organization.


Success in this role requires deep expertise in nonprofit financial management and federal grant compliance particularly in managing and reporting funds originating from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) including the National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) and EPAs Solar for All (SFA) program. As we grow youll play a key role in developing scalable financial systems and delivering highquality reporting across our diverse funding streams.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Reporting

  • Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable/receivable journal entries and reconciliations using QuickBooks Online and Excel.
  • Manage the monthly close process and generate accurate financial statements aligned with GAAP and federal requirements.
  • Maintain and optimize the general ledger and chart of accounts for fund project and class allocations.
  • Prepare interim and final financial reports for federal and philanthropic stakeholders including FFRs and SF425s.
  • Ensure proper documentation and auditready financial records.

Budgeting and Compliance

  • Lead compliance efforts under 2 CFR 200 and other federal guidelines particularly those tied to NCIF CCIA and SFA programs.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual and programspecific budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure alignment with program budgets cost allowability and distribution requirements.
  • Support the CFO in the preparation of IRS filings (990PF 990T) Forms 1099/1096 and audit schedules.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external and federal auditors.

Program Management Support

  • Partner with the SFA Program Director and CFO to monitor financial performance of IRArelated programs.
  • Assist in the financial due diligence of subrecipients vendors and program partners.
  • Analyze grantee and applicant financials ensure alignment with funding terms and support compliance.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to partners and awardees on budgeting cost allocation and federal requirements.
  • Track and report programlevel financial data to support decisionmaking and program evaluation.

Core Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field.
  • 5 years of nonprofit or foundation account experience
  • 2 years of experience managing federal grant funds
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • CPA or on CPA track
  • Ability to think through and solve problems provide solutions and mitigate risk
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas across different mediums and collaborate remotely with crossfunctional teams
  • Passion for clean energy and a commitment to advancing sustainability and environmental stewardship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Inflation Reduction Actrelated programs including NCIF CCIA and Solar for All.
  • Familiarity with EPA grant programs and federal audit protocols.
  • Experience in a highgrowth missiondriven or clean energy nonprofit setting.
  • Experience in privatesector or nongrantbased financial management environments is also considered valuable particularly in areas such as enterprise accounting cost control and systems implementation.

What we offer

The expected annual salary range for this position is $110000 $120000 commensurate with qualifications. We offer competitive benefits including 100% comprehensive health care coverage for employees (medical dental and vision) and 90% employer contribution toward health care coverage for dependents; workfromhome reimbursements (internet phone office set up) up to 3% employer match to 401K 14 paid holidays plus 3 weeks of vacation 5 sick days and paid parental and caregiver leaves.


This role is a remote opportunity with a strong preference for candidates based in Texas Louisiana or Washington D.C. particularly those with experience in or connection to the communities we serve. Exceptional candidates in other states may be considered based on alignment with the roles responsibilities and our mission. Occasional travel may be required for meetings conferences and other external engagements.
