Summary of Job Duties:

University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking Extra Labor Staff to assist in staffing the Multicultural Center. This position will help ensure that the prayer room remains open later in the evening to provide students with a private secure and safe space for prayer and reflection. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining a calm quiet environment that is conducive to spiritual practice and personal reflection as well as offering oneonone assistance to students when needed. This role also includes opening and closing the Multicultural Center office and ensuring the space is wellmaintained. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively;
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a safe respectful and supportive environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Staff the Multicultural Center during extended evening hours to keep the prayer room open for student use;
  • Ensure the environment is calm quiet and secure to support students spiritual and reflective needs;
  • Provide oneonone assistance to students as requested ensuring their questions or concerns are addressed professionally and empathetically;
  • Open and close the Multicultural Center office following all established procedures for securing the space;
  • Monitor the space for cleanliness and safety reporting any maintenance or security concerns to campus safety as appropriate;
  • Serve as a visible approachable representative of the Multicultural Center promoting the spaces availability and resources to students;
  • Collaborate with other staff and counselors to maintain a welcoming and supportive environment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Previous experience working in a multicultural or student support environment;
  • Familiarity with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus and resources;
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds with an understanding of the unique needs of students from various cultural religious and ethnic communities.
