Job Description

POSITION: CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT: RURAL HEALTH

FLSA STATUS: NONEXEMPT

This position will be Full Time Monday Friday and will possibly be included in the Saturday half day rotation. This position will be a floater position assisting in all of Franklin Medical Centers Rural Health Clinics and some specialty clinics as needed. The position will be a dual role position assisting with Medical Assistant duties as well as front office receptionist functions.

JOB SUMMARY:
Cares for patients in the Rural Health Clinic under the direction of nursing staff and physicians by performing essential clerical and clinical essential job functions

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to the Rural Health Clinic Director
Positions Directly Supervised: None
Regular Contact with all Rural Health Clinic personnel Physicians and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding employees patients medical staff hospital business etc.
  2. Verifies patient information by interviewing patients recording medical history and confirming purpose of visit.
  3. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure weight and temperature; and reporting patient history summary.
  4. Assists providers with office procedures as directed.
  5. Maintains safe secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  6. Receives and follows administrative schedules/instructions from supervisor.
  7. Performs various functions on computer as necessary with minimal errors.
  8. Maintains medical supplies inventory and performs preventative maintenance to keep medical equipment operating.
  9. Serves and protects the facility by adhering to professional standards facility policies and procedures; and federal state and local requirements.
  10. Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions defective equipment etc. to the supervisor immediately.
  11. Sanitizes patient rooms equipment and supplies.
  12. Respond to patient inquiries via telephone.
  13. Follows up with patients on lab results including the scheduling of any additional tests.
  14. Reviews physicians orders lab requests or followup needs with patients.
  15. Documents services performed in the EMR.
  16. Provides nursing care as directed including but not limited to obtaining blood specimens dressing wounds injection administration and other requested nursing duties.
  17. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:
High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program. A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) is preferred.

Work Experience:
One (1) year of experience is preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Interpersonal skills and compassion
  • Analyzing information critical thinking and problem solving
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements:
  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally move about the office and facility to access various departments and patient care areas.
  • Frequently position self to maintain equipment and provide patient care.
  • Frequently operate a computer office and patient care machinery.
  • Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand.
  • Ability to observe details at close range.
  • Frequently move boxes equipment etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs.

OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY: A Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
