Portland Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and visionary educational leader to serve as Principal of Portland High School. Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Masters degree in Educational Administration
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Grades 912)
Michigan Administrative Certification (or eligible)
Minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience
Strong understanding of instructional leadership evaluation systems and school operations
Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills
The desired candidate would possess the following experiences and dispositions:

Proven ability to lead innovation and bring ideas from concept to implementation
Demonstrated success in cultivating staff leadership and professional growth
Proven ability to build strong trusting relationships with students families staff and community members
Familiarity with Capturing Kids Hearts or similar frameworks that promote relational capacity connected classrooms and positive school culture
Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where initiative problemsolving and adaptability are essential
Familiarity with MTSS PBIS CTE pathways early college/dual enrollment programs and studentcentered scheduling
Knowledge of State and Federal special education laws and compliance
A growth mindset openness to risktaking and commitment to continuous learning
Essential duties and responsibilities of the position:
Collaboratively develop and implement a clear studentcentered vision for Portland High School that prioritizes individualized learning meaningful opportunities and relevant experiences for all students
Promote a positive and inclusive school culture focused on highquality instruction responsive programming and high staff and student morale
Ensure a safe and orderly learning environment through the planning implementation evaluation and revision of school safety drills procedures and protocols
Oversee all operational aspects of the high school including student scheduling staff assignments and the development of the master schedule
Actively model and support innovation system design and continuous improvement in collaboration with district leadership
Champion and integrate the districts Portrait of a Learner into school culture instructional practices and student experiences
Support the implementation of both district and buildinglevel communication plans ensuring clear consistent and timely messaging with students staff and families
Partner with the Director of Secondary Education to support the design implementation and evaluation of curriculum instruction and assessment in both general and special education
Provide buildinglevel leadership in the implementation of MultiTiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Lead the implementation and ongoing support of Capturing Kids Hearts fostering relational capacity connected classrooms and a strong culture of belonging
Actively support the districts strategic plan by developing and implementing high schoollevel strategies that align with the districts priority objectives
Recruit hire assign and evaluate staff to ensure alignment with certification requirements and state/federal regulations
Conduct midterm formative and summative evaluations of all high school staff including the development and monitoring of individualized growth plans
Ensure compliance with Board policies and all state and federal mandates including required reporting and documentation
Collaborate with the Director of Secondary Education and building leadership team to implement monitor and report progress on the School Improvement Plan
Plan and facilitate regular high school staff meetings that promote collaboration communication and professional growth
In partnership with district leadership help identify professional development needs and support the delivery of highquality learning opportunities for staff
Support communication and alignment between the high school and the Board of Education by attending meetings as needed implementing Board policies and providing timely updates and reports to the Superintendent.
Provide input on the development of the buildinglevel budget staffing levels and resource needs; monitor expenditures to ensure responsible use of school funds
Maintain active participation in county and regional principal meetings professional organizations and administrative team events as required by the Superintendent
Lead the annual development and revision of the Parent/Student Handbook to reflect current building practices and district policies
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Board of Education
Terms of Employment:
Contract: 215day administrative contract (nontenure twoyear term)
Salary: $100000$120000 commensurate with experience with full benefits as per the employment agreement.
