Do you have a passion for water chemistry and life support systems Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is looking for a dedicated Life Support Operator to join our team in supporting the health and wellbeing of aquatic and semiaquatic species. What Youll Do: In this role you will support daily operations of our recirculating aquaculture systems aquatic tank washers ozone generators HVAC and integrated electronic water quality monitoring systems. Youll troubleshoot repair and maintain these systems while conducting precise water quality testing and making adjustments to optimize living environments. Additionally you will perform husbandry duties to ensure optimal water quality including managing fecal matter and monitoring parameters all while minimizing interactions with species to maintain a healthy aquatic environment. - At least 2 years of handson experience in a similar role preferably in a zoo aquarium or aquaculture facility.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a solid understanding of life support systems and water quality equipment.
- Working knowledge of water chemistry filtration systems and electronic monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (USDA USFWS AZA AALSO) and proven ability to maintain compliance.
- Dependable accountable and teamoriented with the ability to thrive in a fastpaced missiondriven environment.
- Ability to adhere to the physical requirements for the role as necessary for effective performance.
A Plus - Certification in life support and/or water quality through AALSO.
- Understanding of AZA and USDA standards for aquatic and nonaquatic animal care.
- Experience with largescale aquariums ozone systems and climate control systems.
- Knowledge of water quality systems water chemistry analysis techniques pool equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to consistently remain on your feet for prolonged periods of time.
- Manual dexterity for standing reaching flexibility and body movement for bending crouching walking kneeling stoop bend lift kneel crawl climb jump dig and prolonged standing.
- Grasp turn and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and handeye coordination.
- Ability to operate motorized cart trucks hand and/or power tools.
- Auditory ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone telephone systems twoway radio and facetoface interactions.
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to transport and move items up to 50 pounds for short distances without difficulty.
- Ability to ascend/ descend ladders steps and uneven terrain while maintaining body equilibrium while performing various jobs.
- Ability to access and navigate each department at the organization on foot including any construction sites.
- Visual and auditory acuity appropriate for safety and discern differences in documents.
- Exceptional visual acuity is required along with the ability to communicate comprehend and decipher/hear information accurately using a twoway radio.
