Marine Safety Officer

Yamhill County Sheriffs Office is actively recruiting to create a pool of diverse candidates eligible for anticipated seasonal fulltime and parttime noncertified Marine Safety Officers (MSO) to work 12 36 hours per week. The anticipated duration of this position is approximately 3.5 months from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Regular work days are Friday Saturday and Sunday with occasional weekday shifts as needed.

Marine Safety Officers serve as the second operator on the boat and assist with boater safety through education and public assistance. This position works under the direct supervision of a marine boat captain and program manager sergeant and indirect supervision of the supervising sergeants and the division commander. Duties around and on the waterways of Yamhill County include but are not limited to performing safety inspections and examinations of various water craft and equipment responding to rescues boating accidents or other emergencies and making appearances at safety fairs and other events.

OSMB SWIM TEST

All candidates who do not have a passing Swim Test on file with Yamhill County will be required to participate in an agencyhosted swim test before Sheriffs Interview date (postinterview step).

NEXT STEPS

Qualified applicants those who meet all minimum requirements may be invited to participate in Oral Board Panel Interviews. The next review of applications will be those received by Thursday May 29 2025 at 3:00 pm. Interviews will be schedule for the first part of June date pending.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

The incumbent typically works on a boat and in outdoor areas using marine equipment as needed with associated noise levels and in varying weather conditions. Additionally the incumbent will work in an office environment using a computer telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise levels in these work environments will be typical to those of either an outdoor area on or near a body of water and/or that of an office. Work also may involve travel to meetings. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.The employee is regularly required to sit talk or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion handle or feel and to stand walk reach bend or lift up to 20 pounds.Contact with the public may risk exposure to irrational/hostile behavior contagious diseases or contact with domestic animals.
