Position Summary
Day Camp Coordinator oversees 3week day camp at Chula Vista Corps. Position is a total of 3 weeks of employment. Under Corps Officer(s) supervision Day Camp Coordinator to organize and plan curriculum implement program supervise Assistants and Volunteers with programming and activities and maintain safe boundaries for neighborhood/community youth parents volunteers during planned activities. Must have a desire to work and empower youth in a fun Christian environment reflecting the values of Jesus Christ and the Salvation Army.
Essential Functions
Leadership
- Able to organize schedule supervise assistants handle logistics and be resourceful maintain a healthy positive outlook interact with children joyfully and work with Corps Officer(s) as needed.
- Understand the mission purpose and values of the Salvation Army and Oceanside Corps.
- Recognize that Day Camp is a time of fun learning and fellowship and focusses on the spiritual needs of participants (referral to Corp Officer(s) as needed).
- Assist Corps Officer(s) ahead of time with planning and implementing Protect the Mission training for Day Camp employees and volunteers with adherence to policy a priority.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for creating Day Camp schedule Monday Friday 3:0Oam 5:00pm to include registration chapel lesson craft time creative arts time (music instruction drama video) excursion as feasible (transport logistics tickets or activity fees) outdoor activities (playtime basketball) and lunch. To include final events and meals for participants and family either Friday night or Saturday morning. Event to include mini concert rewards rally and distribution of school supplies. Lead staff and volunteers with enthusiasm.
- Responsible for assigning/delegating/assisting employees and volunteers with group schedule of activities program needs inventory of supplies and materials needed for each activity. To include cleaning up at end of each day and preparation for the next day. Delegate assistants/volunteers to ensure accurate headcount of registered participants at all times.
- Immediately inform Corps Officers parents/guardians participant injuries disputes and behavioral problems. Coordinate participant parent staff or volunteer issues with Corps Officer(s) in a timely manner; follow up with appropriate documentation (Incident Reporting or Notice of Concern) as directed. Assist in emergencies and treatment of injured participants volunteers and/or staff complete appropriate paperwork.
- Maintain safe working environment/safe facility boundaries; report immediately defects/problems and all suspicious behavior activities or persons to Corps Officer(s).
- Maintain appropriate dress code during Day Camp including branded shirt and name tag.
- Provide information and answer questions regarding upcoming programs at Oceanside Corps.
- Develop monitor and ensure implementation of participant behavior contracts as needed; ensure appropriate communication and completion of all documentation
- Maintain/distribute participants personal medications; maintain medication logbook according to established procedures
- Perform all other duties as directed
Working Conditions
Ability to walk stand bend squat climb kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to l0 lbs. Ability to grasp push pull objects such as files file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer fax and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum High School graduate or equivalent; college degree preferred.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Experience working with children preferably in a Day Camp environment.
- Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Proficiency in MS Office helpful.

- Must be able to work well with children parents and staff in a capacity of leadership counseling and education including but not limited to:

- Ability to engage and maintain a childs interest in activities.
