What youll do... This role is pivotal to Walmarts nextgeneration productivity and AI transformation strategy. As a Staff Systems & Infrastructure Engineer youll take ownership of designing and scaling GenAIpowered solutions that increase enterprise productivity reduce friction in associate workflows and connect tools and systems across the digital workplace. Youll serve as the technical architect and Tier 3 expert for GenAI and automation solutions providing enablement frameworks solution guidance and integration patterns for AI agents that operate across platforms like Jira ServiceNow Workday and internal systems.
About the Role: This Staff Engineer role sits within the Productivity and Collaboration Platforms team at Walmart responsible for delivering intelligent automated and secure GenAI experiences across platforms like Microsoft 365 Zoom Slack and more. The engineer will define technical architecture for AI workflows support agent integration across cloud and onprem systems and lead infrastructure strategy in close collaboration with software engineering and support teams. This role focuses on enablementnot codingand is ideal for a systems thinker who thrives on enterprisescale complexity systems integration and purposeful automation.
What youll do...
Infrastructure Maintenance: Requires knowledge of: Infrastructure maintenance tools and methodologies; Infrastructure maintenance plans and schedule; Infrastructure performance metrics. To plan for infrastructure updates expansions and enhancements. Investigate known and unknown server errors based on solutions applied in the past. Test the security system periodically by simulating internal intrusions and noting observations. Help resolve any issue that occurs in the backup media. Regularly audit firewall logs to identify any suspicious activity. Optimize device configurations by suggesting enhancements across the server/ security/ Solution Automation: Requires knowledge of: Automation tools and technologies; Scripting Languages. To analyze data and metrics to identify areas of automation to drive faster response to operational issues. Maintain uptodate documentation on deployments processes and standard operating procedures/runbooks with a goal minimize runbooks by : Requires knowledge of: Coding standards and guidelines; Coding languages (E.g. JavaScript Python C# etc.) frameworks (E.g. ActiveX .Net Cocoa Android application framework etc.) tools (E.g. Linx Embold etc.) and Platforms (E.g. Microsoft Azure AWS Apple IOS etc.); Quality Safety and Security (PCI etc.) standards; Emerging tools and technologies; Telemetry. To create/configure minimalistic code for entire component/application and ensure the components are meeting business/technical requirements nonfunctional requirements lowmaintainability highavailability and highscalability needs. Assist in the selection of appropriate languages (E.g. JavaScript Python C# etc.) development standards and tools (E.g. Linx Embold etc.) for software coding/configuration. Take initiative to learn the fundamentals of different coding languages and frameworks that would be useful for future scope of work. Build scripts for automation of repetitive and routine tasks in CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) Testing or any other process (as applicable). Implement telemetry features as required independently. Ensure security policy requirements are properly applied to components/application during code development/ And Scoping Analysis: Requires knowledge of: Traceability matrix; Risk analysis methodologies; Cost Analysis; Business objectives; Classification of requirements; User stories To explore relevant products/solutions from an existing repertoire which can address business/technical needs. Assess gaps/ updates/ modifications between the customer/business expectations and the existing product/solutions (in case of agile methodology for the iteration). Classify the requirements into applicable types (For example Functional/NonFunctional Derived/Imposed/Emergent etc.). Anticipate the solution risks / issues during requirements gathering phase inform relevant stakeholders and recommend corrective steps. Contribute to the creation of user stories for component/application/complex (For agile methodology).Capacity Management: Requires knowledge of: Capacity management Current and future business requirements Walmart service levels Computing resources; Infrastructure performance; Infrastructure growth plans. To rightsize IT resources to meet current and future business requirements in a costeffective manner across domains/pillars. Allocate IT resource utilization. Create a model of infrastructure performance to understand future resource needs. Produce a capacity plan that covers current use forecasted needs and support costs for new applications/releases. Build the annual infrastructure growth plan with inputs from other Resolution: Requires knowledge of: Issue resolution techniques; Escalation scale parameters. To monitor evaluate and assess the resolution of escalated issues. Issue noncompliance in case of nonadherence to business rules and escalate to the right Management: Requires knowledge of: Configuration management tools and processes; Configuration and release management in environment(s). To update data from all sources as and when configuration changes are deployed. Conduct analysis for simple configuration Migration: Requires knowledge of: Data Center Operations (Production operations Server Storage Systems and Infra Data Base Management Systems Management Helpdesk DR/Business recovery practices; Platform as a service (PaaS) service for public cloud services (Cosmos EventHub Cloudspanner) (Applicable only to the Cloud Enablement Team). To support in migrating from legacy application from an onsite server to the cloud. Assess and map existing infrastructure analyze cloud platforms process for data migration to indicate where data has been moved to. Ensure no loss of data/solutions during migration. Assess existing platforms to find opportunities for improvement through migration to new Control: Requires knowledge of: Version management tool; Product deployment tools and processes; Release verification mechanism. To ensure that a development trail is built that aids in identifying bugs and defects. Track and maintain any process violations. Maintain data sheet /database of past releases. Conduct release verification to ensure requirements are met under moderate supervision. Oversee and review the process for codes checked into central Management: Requires knowledge of: Types of middleware; Different types of platforms; Functions of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs); Programming languages used for middleware; Principles and protocols for APIlevel integration; New and emerging middleware products tools and methodologies in the industry. To evaluate opportunities for creating connections among various hardware and applications. Evaluate suitable middleware to be used for integrating existing legacy applications with current applications as required including cloud systems. Program middleware or other tools to enable effective integration of applications within. Perform APIlevel integration. Oversee the endtoend process of application integration to the target environment. Investigate issues or failures of application integration. Facilitate modifications to improve the success of integration between application Acumen: Requires knowledge of: Architectural principles; Systems and environment behavior; Architectural Styles Patterns and plans; Architectural standards; Nonfunctional System performance parameters; Technology Strategy. To assist in decomposing the product architecture into multiple components and modules and define architectural specifications for each module. Create/Apply the right architectural pattern across the module as indicated in the architectural plan to obtain the right result. Define the architecture blueprint for the various components within a product/solution. Analyze system performance impacting the complete product for nonfunctional requirements like reliability operability performance efficiency and Design: Requires knowledge of: Software architecture; Distributed systems; Scalability; Design patterns; Disaster Recovery; TechStacks; NonFunctional Requirements; Security standards frameworks and methodologies (System Security Plan SSP Security Risk and Compliance Review SRCR etc.) To create simple modular extensible and functional design in adherence to the requirements for multiple systems within a domain. Understand requirements and analyze the gaps between existing architecture and business requirements. Analyze system performance impacting the complete product for nonfunctional requirements like reliability operability performance efficiency and security. Develop detailed design for an entire system within a domain.
