CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:
The Department of Corrections has a current vacancy for a Correctional Compliance Program Specialist located at Maine State Prison Warren ME. This position is open to Department of Corrections employees and all outside applicants.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is professional services work in coordinating and managing operational standards and department policies for correctional facilities and community corrections in Maine. This position oversees the facilitys adherence to the standards of the American Correctional Association (ACA) to maintain accreditation. It also manages the facilitys alignment with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) requirements ensuring ongoing readiness and compliance. This position will assist with County and Municipal detention facility inspections review/respond to county jail complaints and assist with other projects/duties as assigned. Additional projects such as participating as a member of a statewide audit team investigating and reviewing operational practices and unusual occurrences within the State and County Correctional System. Work is performed under limited supervision.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
- Knowledge of American Correction Association(ACA) standards responsible for tracking compliance with accreditation standards and other performance standards.
- Knowledge of Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) responsible for acting as the facilities PREA Monitor with the ability to complete the duties as set forth for that role.
- Interprets and applies federal and state laws and accrediting agency standards to determine revisions to established state and local correctional facility standards.
- Assists County and Municipal detention facility inspections review and develop reports for incustody deaths.
- Inspects adult and juvenile correctional facility physical plants and operations in areas such as administration food service and sanitation custody and security adult and juvenile male and female accommodations control and discipline medical and health services activities and programs rights facility equipment and systems and training to identify deficiencies.
- Prepares and submits inspection reports which identify violations of correctional facility standards and federal and state laws and regulations to provide information make recommendations and initiate corrective actions.
- Assists with other projects/duties as assigned.
- Apply statistical methods to analyze and present data.
- Reviews and analyzes policies procedures rules and regulations to recommend revisions and improvements to management.
- Monitors American Correctional Association standards to ensure compliance with procedures and processes identify problems and recommend corrective action.
- Reviews and maintains standard operating procedures and related documents to identify errors inconsistencies and possible procedural impact to assist in making necessary revisions and recommendations for change.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws rules and regulations relating to correctional facility standards.
- Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of penal codes.
- Knowledge of State of Maine municipality county and state correctional facility standards.
- Knowledge of life and safety codes.
- Knowledge of law enforcement.
- Knowledge of investigation principles practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of statistical methods.
- Knowledge of correctional classification systems discipline and security.
- Knowledge of correctional supervision.
- Knowledge of contemporary architecture and designs for correctional facilities lockups and shortterm detention centers.
- Ability to read and understand architectural blueprints.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years of education training and/or experience in correctional institution security social servicesresident care and custody programs and/or community corrections programs and services.
