Salary Range: $18.66 $25.00 depending upon qualifications
These positions do not provide benefits however CDOT offers all Interns (temporary employees)paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked capped at fortyeight 48 hours.

Temporary positions will exist for 9 months or less.

Description of Job

About the Work Unit

The Region 4 Business Office work unit exists to ensure the financial integrity of all business transactions throughout the region in meeting its fiduciary responsibilities to the public. This unit acts as liaison to CDOT offices of the Controller Financial Management and Budget Procurement Agreements and Chief Financial Officer. Additionally overall business services are provided to the Regional Transportation Director (RTD) Program Engineer North South and Central Section Maintenance Section 1 Planning and Environmental Section Civil Rights Unit Safety Unit and Traffic Section. The work unit provides the following core functions:

Financial Advice to the RTD and Division Directors Financial Reporting

Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) and Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) and Coordination

Region Program Reporting and Transparency Office (PRTO)

Budget Planning and Coordination

Project programming and expenditures/Program Delivery/Cash Management

Contracting and purchasing

Accounts payable and receivable

Project Creation and Setup

Description of Job

Intern position will support the Region 4 Business Office at CDOT. This position will assist with the processing of invoices for payment will support regional business activities related to fiscal year end and will assist with the review and tracking of other financial transactions such as purchase orders and procurement card transactions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

    • Review utility and other invoices for payment as well as identify and record the correct accounting coding on each invoice then upload the invoice into OnBase for approvals and final processing
    • Verify and record accounts payable transactions on payment requests and in OnBase according to applicable rules established policies and procedures.
    • Help to identify invoices that need to be accrued and identify the correct accounting coding information and add that coding to the documentation according to applicable rules naming conventions established policies and procedures
    • Help to identify purchase orders that may need to be closed out research if closure is needed assist in the closure if necessary
    • Assist with the review of procurement card transactions and back up documentation to ensure compliance with the procurement card manual and other applicable rules
    • Process incoming mail sent to the CDOT R4 Business Office
    • Track and identify utility invoices that need to be paid
    • Assist with electronic file storage and electronic documentation efforts as necessary
    • Participate in special projects and miscellaneous tasks as needed to support the activities of the Region 4 Business Office including clerical and organizational tasks
    • Utilize the following: Google Suite/Google App Adobe Acrobat MS Word MS Excel MS Access OnBase and SAP

Work Environment:

  • This position is based at CDOT Region 4 Headquarters in Greeley CO
  • Expected work schedule is between Monday and Friday
  • This role is anticipated to work a minimum of 2030 hours per week (Can be somewhat flexible with days and hours worked)

Qualified candidatesmust be:

  • Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college college or university seeking an Associates Bachelors Masters or Ph.D. degree. Preferred in Business Administration or a closely related field. (A copy of your transcript must be attached to your online application. See below)

OR

  • A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates Bachelors Masters or Ph.D. degree in Business Administration Finance Communications Data Management Planning (financial regional transportation or urban) Political Science Public Administration or a closely related field within three calendar years. (A copy of your transcript must be attached to your online application. See below)

OR

  • A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Program.
