Job Description

Associated Students UCLA as a responsive studentcentered organization provides innovative and excellent services programs products and facilities for the entire UCLA community. ASUCLA was created when the campus first opened in 1919. Even in the early years ASUCLA meant student government student publications and student services such as a bookstore and cafeteria. Today ASUCLA has evolved into a fourpart organization. These four entities collectively make up the largest student association in the country. The four entities are:
  • Undergraduate Students Association elected representatives of the undergraduate student body.
  • Graduate Students Association elected representatives of the graduate student body.
  • Student Media this includes the Daily Bruin the Bruin Life Yearbook and seven different magazines.
  • Services & Enterprises this division is designed to meet the everyday needs of students and the campus community. Major divisions include Student Union Event Services UCLA Restaurants UCLA Store UCLA Photography and Trademarks & Licensing.
Goals of Associated Students UCLA:
Products To provide essential and convenient items that are easily accessible of high quality and low cost including but not limited to academic support food trademark merchandise and convenience products. In addition to continue evaluating the utility and convenience of all products to make improvements that will best serve the UCLA community.

Facilities To provide a welcoming environment with as much space as possible for the optimal functioning of general academic support student governments student organizations and social gatherings. To have stateoftheart venues for programming and efficient aesthetic and multifunctional commercial outlets.

Programs To provide and support a diversified array of programming by prioritizing studentrun studentinitiated studentcentered programming that reflects the needs of the campus community in order to enhance educational cultural and developmental social interaction.

Services To provide an outstanding level of support to student government student groups and student programs through the stateoftheart office and community spaces and by providing adequate financial resources and personnel to ensure an active and vibrant campus life.
Director of Food Operations
Salary Range: $120000 $163000
Department: Food
ASUCLA is seeking a dynamic and experienced senior leader to oversee the operations of multiple Restaurants concessions and catering operations; including all inhouse and thirdparty food service activities. This position plays a critical role in shaping the strategy performance and customer experience of food service across UCLA campus aligning business goals with studentcentered values. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of ASUCLAs executive team the successful candidate will be responsible for driving innovation operational excellence and collaboration within the Food Service Division.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
This position reports directly to ASUCLAs Executive Director and functions as a senior member of ASUCLAs executive management team.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Oversee all ASUCLA inhouse and thirdparty food vendor activities.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for multiple food service operations through:
    • Indepth analysis of current operations and business models.
    • Enhancement of product offerings and profit strategies.
    • Identification and negotiation of new business ventures and thirdparty partnerships.
  • Manage centralized operations including:
    • Quality control
    • Customer service
    • Food and supply purchasing
    • Marketing and promotional strategies
    • Pricing policies
    • Inventory and operational management
    • Space allocation
    • Staffing and team development
  • Lead divisionwide operations and key programming efforts.
  • Oversee facilities upgrades and construction projects related to food service.
  • Cultivate partnerships and collaborative opportunities with campus departments and other stakeholders.
Additionally this role oversees managers and staff involved in:
  • Strategic planning and resource management.
  • Financial and operational reporting and analysis.
  • Policy development and compliance.
  • Engagement with ASUCLAs Board of Directors and external partners.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive management experience in highvolume multiunit restaurant or food service operations.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role with proven success in:
    • P&L management
    • Business development
    • Product and customer service strategy
    • Vendor relations and contract negotiation
    • Purchasing and inventory control
    • Advertising promotions and marketing
    • Comprehensive food service reporting systems
    • Personnel management and team development
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement new business strategies.
  • Excellent communication writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and campus groups.
  • Bachelors degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced education strongly preferred.
Supervises:
Direct and indirect supervision of all Food Service Division staff including:
  • Recruitment and hiring
  • Training and development
  • Coaching and counseling
  • Performance evaluation
Background Verification:
