Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director for West Campus. Boca Raton FL.
This position requires living on campus in a provided furnished apartment. The Department of Housing and Residential Educations residential facilities do not close. We serve our students and remain open during all campus holidays and closures. Due to our 12month operation staff will work oncall hours when the University is closed or when classes are not in session (ex. during Thanksgiving Winter Break and Spring Break). This position is considered an essential employee. In severe weather or emergency situations the University may suspend classes or close the University. This position would be expected to remain at or report to their facilities as soon as conditions reasonably permit.
Summary of responsibilities:
Staff Supervision
Supervise 6 fulltime professional staff members.
Provide ongoing training supervision and regular development of around 80 student staff members (includes front desk staff and RAs).
Serve as a role model for all hall staff and residents in personal and professional behaviors.
Implement the departmental performance appraisal process with student and professional staff members in your area.
Mediate a range of student conflicts including roommate/ suitemate agreements and maintenance concerns.
Actively develop an environment through dialogue and other educational means that encourages and fosters a sense of community.
Attend all departmental and divisional training sessions and workshops as required.
Residential Education
Lead opening closing and semesterly turn process for residence halls within designated area of campus in collaboration with Residential Education Leadership Team.
Oversee implementation of strategies that enable student achievement of the goals outlined in the residential curriculum model.
Implement academic outreach and support within the residence halls.
Meet individually with students to provide personal social academic and cocurricular support that enhances student persistence.
Provide leadership guidance and support to staff students and student groups by guiding their efforts to develop communities and increase their social awareness and sense of responsibility.
Collaborate with faculty and staff stakeholders to implement programmatic opportunities in the residence halls within designated areas of campus.
Utilize institutional data to assess and respond to student needs.
Serve on at least one of the departmental committees such as Recruitment and Selection Training and Development Recognition Departmental Operations or Atlantic Experience.
Administrative
Work directly with the university Admissions office to plan and implement largescale oncampus visit day events both in theFall and Spring semesters.
Collaborate with other departmental and university offices such as University Police Counseling and Psychological Services Campus Life Campus Dining Housing Assignments and Contracts Housing Facilities or health and wellness units as needed.
Attend various departmental meetings on a weekly/biweekly basis.
Prepare endofsemester and endofyear reports in December and May respectively.
Manage semesterly damage appeals process for designated areas of campus.
Maintain presence in the hall and campus community during most business hours and in the evening for staff meetings and programs.
Prepare and monitor program and administrative budgets for designated areas of campus.
Complete regular community walkthroughs with the residential facilities Assistant Director to gauge and follow up on community and facility needs.
Supervise lead and manage Residential Education/Housing processes in Opening Closing Damage Billing Health and Safety Inspections etc.
Recommend policy and procedure changes as needed.
Assist in various Housing and Residential Education initiatives and programs as needed which may include occasional nights or weekend commitments.
Complete additional duties as assigned to meet departmental and university needs.
Student Conduct
Provide case management support for hearing officers for designated area of campus
Serve as a student conduct administrator to help create a positive community environment in which students learn from their actions and assume responsibility for their actions.
Meet with students in violation of university and residential policies adjudicate cases and sanction students.
Implement and interpret housing policy to staff and students.
Crisis Intervention
Participate in the rotating Leadership oncall system for Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses responding to emergencies and stakeholder concerns. Oncall coverageis on a weekly rotating basis including times when the university is closed (i.e. federal holidays Winter Break Spring Break and Summer).
Use departmental protocol to respond to crises or emergencies which includes providing guidance to all levels of staff.
Provide appropriate postcrisis referrals and followup with students and staff.
Serve as a resource and referral agent for students and staff with a focus on student success.
Professional Development
Take an active role and interest in the professional development of direct reports.
Exhibit the ability to engage in indepth selfreflection and apply what they learned to their professional development
Present workshops and training sessions for staff and students.
Serve on university divisional and departmental committees as requested.
Performs other jobrelated duties as assigned.
