Job Description

Summary:
As a Behavioral Health (BH) Patient Specialist you will uphold our Mission Vision and Values. In this position you will perform a variety of patient focused duties including greeting patients/guests and overseeing the flow of patient traffic in the waiting room areas. You will work closely with all departments to ensure the flow and accuracy of information meets their needs. The schedule for this role will be: Monday 9a to 6p Tuesday 10a to 7p Wednesday 9a to 6p Thursday 10a to 7p and Friday 8a to 5p.

  • Greet all patients and visitors in a friendly professional and efficient manner.
  • Notify Outreach and Enrollment staff of uninsured patients.
  • Comply with regulations standards and directives from Open Door Health Services regulatory agencies and thirdparty payers.

Vision ODHS preferred partner in East Central Indiana for improving the wellbeing of individuals and the communities in which they live:
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Make reminder calls to patients and complete any preregistration tasks.
  • Contact no show appointments to reschedule.
  • Accurately perform complete registration of patient clinical financial and demographic information in Athena.
  • Responsible for the verification of insurance eligibility.
  • Distribute and collect the new patient packet forms.
  • Schedule new clients from referrals that come from providers.
  • Send information back to referring providers.
  • Update and maintain Behavioral Health schedules with clients and making appointments.
  • Update Athena with no shows checking to make sure of their status and sending appropriate status to client as required.
  • Assist with tracking processing and completion of Prior Authorizations as needed.
  • Assist with administering tracking and scoring behavioral rating scales given to patients parents and teachers.
  • Assist with obtaining psychological records related to previous psychological testing through schools and other agencies.

  • Collect payments from patients for charges and copayments at time of service.
  • Reconcile monies collected to the Manage Time of Service Money report at the end of the day.
  • Maintains a signin log of vendors students and volunteers.
  • Copy patient documents for assistance programs and forward them to appropriate staff.
  • Responsible for seeing that the building is secured in the evening.
  • Add notes into clients Athena charts as needed.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a health care setting and/or in an office preferred.
  • Previous experience as a receptionist and/or checkout preferred.

  • Able to work with a high degree of precision and attention to detail.
  • Able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Great telephone and computer skills.
  • Able to work unsupervised.
  • Requires standing walking or sitting for long periods of time. Occasional bending stretching.
  • Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases toxic substances medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment. Tasks involve contact with blood or body substances.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range or use of approved adaptive equipment.
  • Requires the ability to work in stressful situations.
