Job Description
Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to assist students with physical emotional and learning disabilities and learning disabled students individually or in small groups with learning tasks and other tasks assigned by the teacher.
Assigns work to students.
Takes over classes when teacher has parent conferences problems emergencies etc.
Prepares classroom materials; assists in the clean up of materials.
Maintains records such as attendance collection of funds field trips student files etc. and performs grading of student assignments.
Monitors students as various times including cafeteria seat work assemblies etc.
Assists individual students and small groups with learning tasks as assigned by the teacher.
Assists students with makeup work.
Assists substitute teachers.
Administers first aid to sick or injured students until nurse can take over.
Assists physically handicapped students with restroom needs.
Assists physically handicapped students on and off the bus.
Works closely with physical and occupational therapists speech therapist and other personnel.
Records behavior problems
Minimum Training and Experience Required
Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
Obtained an associates (or higher) degree; or
Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate through a formal State or local academic assessment knowledge of and the ability
to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics (or as appropriate reading readiness writing readiness and mathematics readiness).
Minimum Physical and Mental Abilities Required
Ability to lift and/or carry weights of ten to twenty pounds.
Work involves walking or standing most of the time but may involve sitting for brief times.
Ability to add subtract multiply divide and calculate decimals and percentages.
Ability to communicate effectively with students principals teachers parents volunteers counselors nurses health aides other corporation personnel and the general public verbally and in writing.
This position earns $18.45 per hour.
Position is paid 26 times a year. So total pay is spread out over the summer months.
This position can be combinedwith driving a bus for full time benefits and pay.
