Job Description

Job Title: Secondary Principal

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Department: Assigned Campus/Level

Reports To: Superintendent

Approved By: Board of Trustees

SUMMARY:

Donna ISD is seeking innovative instructional leaders to serve as potential principals at our secondary schools. Responsible for the implementation and evaluation of all instructional and programmatic activities. Work with district personnel to ensure that instructional programs result in high academic achievement for all students. The ideal candidates will demonstrate their experience and knowledge in building campus culture as well as knowledge of curriculum instructional practices school improvement socialemotional learning and supports wellness and leadership development.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and evaluates the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s) teacher(s) counselor(s) librarian(s) instructional assistants clerical support staff and custodians.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Three years experience as a classroom teacher

Three years experience in administrative leadership

Three years experience as a campus principal preferred

Fully certified

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate

Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System Appraiser (TTESS)

Certified Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System Appraiser (TPESS)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Management

  1. Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective
  2. Regularly consult the campuslevel committee about planning operation supervision and evaluation of campus education Include students and community representatives when appropriate.

School Organization Morale

  1. Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional
  2. Foster collegiality and team building among staff Encourage their active involvement in decision making process.
  3. Provide for twoway communication with superintendent staff students parents and
  4. Communicate and promote expectations for highlevel performance to staff and

School or Organization Improvement

  1. Build common vision for school improvement with Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of schools mission.
  2. Identify analyze and apply research findings (e.g. effective school correlates) to promote school
  3. Develop and set annual campus performance objectives for each of the Academic Excellence Indicators using the campus planning process and sitebased decision making
  4. Develop maintain and use information systems and records information necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives addressing each Academic Excellence

Personnel Management

Student Management

  1. Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school
  2. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student

School or Community Relations

  1. Articulate the schools mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators staff parents and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness. Ability to manage budget and personnel. Ability to coordinate campus functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. Light to moderate lifting is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and depth perception.

This position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints interacting with the public and staff and enduring irregular or extended work hours.

The demands of extended work days (coverage of building activities and extracurricular activities etc.) requires a high level of physical endurance. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works inside. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day and the location of the activity.
