What You Will Be Doing

This position is a fullproficiency professional level position in which you will analyze summarize and report financial data maintain internal controls and provide financial oversight and control of accounting functions. The incumbent will use their knowledge to resolve accounting issues and provide direction in the practical application of the Divisions procedures and techniques for the benefit of our clients. In this job the incumbent will learn the principles of fund accounting along with learning to complete quarterly monthly and annual financial statements and reconciliations. These accounting functions will help build on skills that can be used for future job promotions.

The Division of Retirement and Benefits administers the State of Alaska and political subdivision retirement and benefits plans. The Division of Retirement and Benefits continues to support the needs of retirees while providing customer services to active members. We achieve organizational excellence by focusing on the customer to deliver exceptional services using effective and efficient processes. The Finance section Accounting units mission is to provide timely and accurate financial reporting for the plans administered by the division.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is located at 400 Willoughby across the street from the State Office Building in beautiful downtown Juneau. The office hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm. Instate hybrid telework opportunities may be available after training and/or probationary period is complete.

  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.

Any combination of preparatory postsecondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in accounting budgeting or financial management.
