Job Description

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED; one year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Prior experience in food service or hospitality is preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include nights weekends and holidays.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Dependable punctual and able to work as part of a team.
- Physical Requirements: Extended standing walking ability to bend stoop reach and climb ladders.
- Ability to work in all temperature conditions.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:
The Catering Steward supports the successful operation of all university catering events by ensuring cleanliness and organization. This position works with the catering team to maintain high standards of food safety service and hospitality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Collect soiled china glassware and flatware from event spaces and return them to the dishwashing area promptly.
- Operate commercial dishwashing machines to clean china glassware silverware and serving utensils according to safety and sanitation standards.
- Inspect all cleaned items to ensure they are spotless and free of residue stains or chips before storage or reuse.
- Handwash delicate or specialty items that cannot go through the dishwasher.
- Dry and polish china and glassware as needed to maintain a high standard of presentation.
- Safely transport cleaned items back to storage or staging areas without damage.
- Organize sort and store china glassware and flatware in designated locations to maintain inventory control and readiness for upcoming events.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing and storage areas.
- Follow university and department protocols for hygiene sanitation and health inspections.
- Report any damaged or missing china and assist in inventory tracking and replenishment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
