About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Product Counsel to join the growing Product Legal team to meet the expanding needs of our company and our customers. In this role you will be (a) empowering a team of legal and compliance professionals focused on building and maintaining a comprehensive HR rules set that will enable bespoke compliance experience across Gustos suite of products; (b) advising the business as it builds worldclass HRrelated product experiences for Gusto customers; and (c) serving as a subject matter expert for the product legal and compliance teams on complex HR legal questions. Gustos Legal & Compliance team partners with product teams to enable innovation facilitate responsible company growth accelerate the Gusto roadmap and provide compliant products to our customers through solutionfocused counsel on legal and business risks. We are passionate about using groundbreaking technology and excellent service to elevate the experience of small business owners and their employees. Each team member is a true owner and makes a tremendous impact every day.
Heres what youll do daytoday:
- Counsel the product engineering and design teams on a range of issues including employment compliance wage & hour employee benefits marketing data privacy and AI use.
- Advise on complex regulatory frameworks to design or enhance innovative and regulated B2B and B2C products and services that support the HR and compliance needs of small businesses.
- Contribute to our product suite from brainstorm and ideation through launch.
- Contribute to key initiatives helping to mature our Legal & Compliance teams functions.
- Empower legal and compliance individuals focused on strategic HR product initiatives.
Heres what were looking for:
- JD degree and active license to practice law (member of a State Bar).
- 10 years of legal experience including inhouse work at a tech company with a focus on employment law.
- Experience providing pragmatic legal guidance on tech products.
- Strong problemsolving skills balancing legal risk with business needs.
- Collaborative and able to thrive under pressure in crossfunctional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus and foster strong relationships.
- Eagerness to dive in and drive projects independently.
- Interest in how technology can improve HR processes and reduce pain points.
- Attention to detail and followthrough in a fastpaced environment.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is $198000 to $246000 in Denver & most major metro locations and $221000 to $273000 for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver San Francisco and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 23 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles Gustos subsidiary whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office a secure reliable and consistent internet connection is required.
