- Hourly rate from $53.87 super
The role
As a Bridge Operator youll be responsible for safely opening and closing Pyrmont Bridge to allow vessels to pass while keeping pedestrians cyclists and the public safe. Youll also help process requests for berth bookings and record bridge openings making sure everything is logged and in line with procedures.
This role suits someone who enjoys handson work with machinery has good attention to detail and communicates clearly and respectfully with the public. Full training will be provided so if youre reliable safetyfocused and have a passion for heritage equipment or mechanical systems well teach you the rest. You must be available to work weekends and public holidays when required. On average our Bridge Operators work 3 weekend shifts per month totalling of 15 hours per month (although this is not guaranteed and is subject to seasonal variation).

What you will bring to the role
- Experience using marine radios or similar communication systems and a calm clear communication style.
- A strong focus on safety with an understanding of Work Health and Safety responsibilities and a commitment to following procedures step by step.
- Patience and care when working with heritage machinerywhether youve worked around vintage trams railways or other mechanical systems.
- A practical handson mindset and a genuine interest in how things work especially in public spaces with high visibility.
- A respectful and professional approach to dealing with the public even under pressure.
- Willingness to take on thorough training to safely and confidently operate the bridge.
Essential requirements
- Qualifications operating high voltage DC electrical equipment and or relevant industry experience
- Willing and able to work shift work on a 7day roster
- Current and valid NSW Driver Licence
