Job Description
Summary
The Environmental Studies and Sciences (ESS) Department at Skidmore College is looking to fill a oneyear Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) Position in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data science beginning fall of 2025 (courses begin 9/3/2025). This position is currently nonrenewable beyond the oneyear appointment. The ESS Department is particularly interested in an interdisciplinary natural scientist who explores the impact of landuse patterns on ecological dynamics in natural and humandominated settings. The person filling this position will teach sections of Introductory GIS one Advanced GIS class and perhaps contribute to other innovative courses within the ESS curriculum. Drone teaching experience is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will also advise a team of undergraduate GIS lab peer tutors and TAs. Faculty at Skidmore College teach 18 contact hours (typically a 22 or 23 teaching load depending on the courses/labs).
Skidmore is a residential liberal arts college located in Saratoga Springs NY that isfocused on quality teaching research and student experiential learning. Saratoga Springs is located near the southern end of the Adirondack Park and three hours from New York City Boston MA and Montreal Canada.
Education: PhD is required.

Salary range:$66k$70k
Pay Ranges:
The hiring rate for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
- Prior relevant work or industry experience.
- Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
- Academic discipline (faculty pay ranges reflect 9month annual salary).
- Unique applicable skills.
