Job Description:
Purpose:
The Homestead Addiction Services Virtual Community Treatment Program provides addiction counselling and relapse prevention strategies to men/women/nonbinary adults residing in Ontario through process groups life skills classes and individual counselling. The counsellor also networks with community organizations for referrals to the program.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Make contact/build rapport with Ontario residents who are presently in addiction recovery programs or in need of outpatient addiction treatment
Awareness of issues around and experience in dealing with concurrent disorders; marginalized populations; spiritual issues in recovery
The ability to provide trauma informed services
Ability to navigate technology and trouble shoot technical difficulties that impact a virtual group
Comfortable with learning new software and creating engaging/interactive group material/presentations in established topics.
Assessment
Demonstrated ability to provide effective oneonone counselling; virtual support group facilitation; virtual classroom teaching; outreach and pretreatment services
Addiction Case Management
Supportive and crisis counselling
Training and experience in the delivery of program in the following areas: Relapse Prevention; Life Skills
Identify and assess short and long term goals with client
Provide ongoing Relapse Prevention Counselling and support client in their recovery goals
Support clients to implement their action plan
Provide referrals as required to connect clients to appropriate community support services
Provide life skills teaching to clients as required
Maintain accurate and professional client documentation
Attend team meetings as required
Community networking
Discharge Planning
Report to Program Coordinator Addictions Outreach
Minimum Educational Requirements
The successful applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g. BA BSc BScN BSW etc..)
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be accepted
Special Licenses Diplomas Certifications or Requirements
Minimum 3 years experience working in the addiction/mental health sector with marginalized clientele.
Membership in the Canadian certifying body for the addictions field CACCF
Membership in a professional college Registered Social Worker or other regulated body
Training and/or experience in: First Aid/CPR; Crisis/conflict management; Client assessment; Discharge planning
Minimum Prior Related Experience
The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:
Minimum 1 years experience working in the addiction/mental health sector with marginalized clientele.
Physical Effort/Dexterity Required
The performance of the job requires a significant amount of keyboarding some walking and climbing stairs crouching twisting bending and lifting.
Winter related hazards such as cold stress and driving/walking in snow.
Concentration Required
The performance of the job requires continuous monitoring of a virtual environment and multitasking moderate attention when reading close attention listening and working with numbers
Work Environments
The incumbents work environment is typically in an office or at work sites within the residential setting.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
Dealing with angry and abusive people
Verbal abuse
Exposure to drugs alcohol and solvents
Exposure to Hazards
The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate injury or illness due to:
Exposure to infectious diseases
Exposure to toxic chemicals
Exposure to bodily fluids
Sharp objects (needle sticks knives and weapons)
Other dangerous situations
Precautionary Measures
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety protocol):
Universal precautions
Immunization for Hepatitis B
Vaccination against TB
WHMIS training
Current certification in First Aid/CPR
Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check
Nonviolent crisis intervention training
Cleared with Child Abuse Registry
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $26.78 to $33.47 with a maximum of $40.16.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
