- Serves as the Chair for Graduate Student Advisory Board (GSAB).
- Develops and executes aneffective communication strategy to Graduate and Professional Student Organizations about Student Senate activities and outcomes.
- Gathers compiles and presents information to the Student Executive Committee and Student Senate on graduate student concerns and suggestions to improve student life.
- Facilitates graduate student representation schedules meetings and maintains effective communication with stakeholders to ensure the work and decisions made through GSAB are transparent within Student Senate and the KU community.
35% Work with KU Administration
- Develop and set agenda for meetings with KU administrative officers.
- Fosters effective relationships between and among the Student Senate Office of Graduate Studies Office of Student Affairs and Office of the Provost to enhance the graduate student experience.
30% Advocacy Work
- Monitors the effectiveness of legal health childcare support and/or financial services relevant to graduate and professional students at the University of Kansas.
- Effectively communicates deficits in graduate student services to GSAB KU Student Senate and KU Administration

Work Schedule20 hours per week; including a portion served in the Student Senate office between 8am and 9pm Monday through Friday. Wednesday evenings 5pm10pm for Student Senate meetings.

- KU graduate student in good academic standing enrolled fulltime in a degreeseeking program in accordance with the FullTime Enrollment for Graduate Students policy.
- Able to attend in person Student Senate and administrative meetings and therefore needs the ability to commute to the Lawrence campus multiple times per week (see duties listed above).
- Strong written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.

- Completion of at least one year of graduate course work enrolled fulltime in a KU graduate program.

- Prior experience or involvement with KU Student Senate or student governance at another higher education institution as demonstrated by application materials.
- Prior experience advocating for graduate student needs including participation in departmental school or university committees or other forms of campus advocacy as demonstrated by application materials.
Position OverviewThe mission of the Graduate Student Advisory Board (GSAB) is fourfold: to serve graduate and professional students at the University of Kansas by addressing their needs and concerns to administrative and government agents; to promote graduate and professional students status and achievements (e.g. research teaching and service) to the administration community and Board of Regents; to develop productive working relationships with all departmental administrative and governance bodies at the University of Kansas; and to provide opportunities that facilitate graduate and professional students academic and professional development.

Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be preenrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are
not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/nonexempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/nonexempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
