Job Description

Reports to: Middle High School PrincipalJob Goal: The MiddleHigh School Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading directing counseling and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent teacher and child communications; supporting encouraging mentoring and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items. The assistant principal acts in the capacity of the principal during the principals absence from the school. Qualifications:Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Education (Assistant Principal/Principal 512)At least three years of successful teaching experiencePerformance Responsibilities:1) Takes a leadership role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities including the master schedule development of class schedules teacher assignments and extracurricular activities.2) Oversees school operations in the principals absence.3) Oversees reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with staff to identify and address issues.4) Works with department heads and staff to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.5) Ensures the school rules are uniformly enforced (i.e in the building on school grounds school buses and student events) and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct/Discipline and Student Handbook.6) Works with staff and students to maintain a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.7) Conducts conferences about student and school issues with parents students and teachers.8) Ensures that students are adequately supervised during non instructional periods.9) Attends extracurricular activities including special events.10) Observes staff performance records observations writes staff evaluations and conducts evaluation conferences. 11) Assists principal in interviewing selecting and orienting new staff.12) Plans statewide testing (i.e. MCAS) logistics schedules and ordering of testing materials. 13) Assists the principal to develop maintain and use information systems to maintain records and track progress of students.14) Assists in coordinating parent/teacher conferences.15) Assists with fire drills emergency/disaster preparedness plans and bus evacuation.16) Develops and maintains positive communications with the community and solicits support for school and district objectives and programs.17) Maintains open communication with the principal to promote orderly operation of the school and its instructional programs.18) Other duties as requested by the building : Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with accepted district guidelines/procedures in alignment with state mandates and Of Employment: 180 days (school calendar) plus 20 days.
