The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is the largest organization in the United States dedicated to preventing and addressing homelessness. In partnership with other City Agencies and NonforProfit organizations DHS works to prevent homelessness before it begins reduce street homelessness provide temporary shelter and connect individuals and families to stable housing all with a focus on accountability empathy and equity.
DHS is committed to continuous improvement and employs innovative strategies to deliver highquality services that support a swift transition from shelter to selfsufficiency. The agency manages hundreds of facilities and operates with a large team as well as a several billiondollar budget to meet the diverse needs of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.
The Facilities & Logistics Division (F&L) is responsible for providing both direct and indirect maintenance and repair services to City owned and operated facilities using inhouse skilled tradeworkers maintenance contracts and purchasing operation. F&L contract portfolio oversees approximately $200 million dollars assigned to building maintenance. The goal of this unit is to ensure funds are being spent on preventive and general maintenance to avoid premature failure of building systems.
The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting for one (1) Maintenance Worker who will:
Assist in the routine maintenance operation and repair of public buildings and structures and the equipment they contain.
Conduct visual inspections of building equipment and conditions; performs related work such as driving to and from work sites.
Maintain adjust and make minor repairs of building hardware furniture shelving and equipment.
Replace broken window and door glass.
Repair windows and sash.
Make minor repairs to masonry woodwork flooring and walls.
Make minor repairs to building electrical plumbing and heating systems.
Assist in relocating building equipment as directed.
Hours/Schedule: Monday Friday/ 8am 4:00pm
MAINTENANCE WORKER 90698
Qualifications :
1. Three years of fulltime satisfactory experience as a mechanic journeyperson or helper in the electrical trades the mechanical trades or the construction or maintenance of buildings; or
2. At least two years of fulltime satisfactory experience as described in 1 above plus sufficient fulltime training or education in the electrical mechanical or construction trades in a trade school technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of fulltime acceptable training or education.
