CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:

The Department of Corrections is accepting applications for Teacher Juvenile MS Science Long Creek Youth Development Center Maine.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The A.R. Gould School operates yearround. Regulated by the Department of Corrections the Department of Education and State Statutes (Title 20A and Title 20) the school is required to meet the Common Core State Standards governing legislative mandates and federal guidelines of the NCLB. Additionally both Performance Based Standards and American Correctional Association set the standards regulate and regularly monitor the education of incarcerated youth.

The Science program for the students of the A.R. Gould School includes all students of A.R Gould school. The Science program for the school must meet the requirements of the Maine Department of Education. This includes providing a life and earth science for every committed student and is a necessity to maintain the American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation and Performance based standards (PbS) compliance. Both ACA and PbS are nationally recognized to audit correctional facilities to determine the facility maintains nation standards on resident care and custody.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

This work requires experience and knowledge to teach at risk youth in grades 712 hands on projectbased learning for all students of AR Gould School.

This position is also responsible for working with the Math department in developing a STEM model for the A.R. Gould School as well as sponsoring projectbased curriculum to students with an integration of Technology.

Evaluates student academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports

Prepares lesson plans plans a program of science study that meets and interests the individual needs and abilities.

Works closely as a team member with other facility during strategy meetings

Ability to teach Science at the middle school or secondary school level along with general education classes.

Ability to work with and manage atrisk youth.

Ability to provide necessary accommodations and modifications for the growth and success of all students.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelors Degree in Education Special Education or a related field.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATIONREQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

Maine Teachers Certification for the appropriate subject and/or grades as issued by the Department of Education. Preference will be given to applicants who possess a Special Education 282 (712) Special Education 282 (K8)
