The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness and the County is working to revise and expand its response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us address issues like housing mental health and substance use. Department of Health Services Community Programs (Housing for Health for Homelessness) and Office of Diversion and Reentry seek qualified candidates to fill emergency Supervising Clinic Nurse I Community Programsvacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before your initial work period ends you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment as Supervising Clinic Nurse I Community Programs.
ABOUT COMMUNITY PROGRAMS:
Community Programs at the Department of Health Services (DHS) supports a range of programs that provide healthcare services and resources to the most vulnerable patientsacross Los Angeles County. The Community Programs Unit includes Housing for Health Office of Diversion and Reentry My Health LA and other community programs.
Prepares work schedules and makes daily assignments to nursing staff members to perform the various patient care tasks matching staff skills with duties to be performed.
Review work performed by nursing personnel observe for quality of care formally evaluate employee performance write anecdotal notes and counsel staff about performance.
Investigate and prepare answers to and recommend the adjustment of employee grievances and disciplinary cases.
Establishes priority for patient care prepares and revises patient care schedules and observes for disruptions in the even flow of patients through the unit deciding and initiating corrective action as necessary.
Meets with nursing supervision and physicians to plan develop or assist in designing and developing nursing procedures and needed supplies and equipment to modify existing services or initiate new ones.
Interprets and explains new services procedures equipment or supplies to employees.
Evaluate procedures periodically and revise them as necessary.
Investigate and answer complaints about patient care and explain to patients who complain why other patients receive treatment out of turn.
Maintains safe conditions and control over patients employees and visitors in the area; investigates and prepares reports on accidents and other incidents;
Verifies that all nursing tasks and ordered treatments have been performed by nursing staff and that physicians orders have been charted and checked as needed with physicians before signing off charts.
Coordinates patient care with other clinics and facilities and may authorize or direct transfer of patients to other facilities.
Develop and conduct training to orient new nursing employees to the units policies and procedures and familiarize them with new procedures as needed.
Interprets nursing philosophy goals policies and procedures governing patient care security safety medications treatments and other elements of the units operation to employees patients or others.
Perform duties of clinic nurses or other nursing personnel incidental to the duties described above as needed.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: The required license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs California Board of Registered Nursing will be verified at the following website: . Additionally to receive credit for a license(s) and/or certification(s) the license(s) and/ or certification(s) must be active and unrestricted.
1. One (1) year experience as a registered nurse leading staff in providing nursing care or services.*
AND
2. Alicense to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.**
AND
3.Current certification by the American Heart Associations Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.
LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATE(S) REQUIRED:
**To compete in this examination process applicants must have a license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing OR have a license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by a State Government Board of Registered Nursing within the United States of America.
Applicants claiming experience in a state other than Californiamust provide their Registered Nurse License Number from that state on the application. Experience outside of California will not be considered if the license information for the state where the experience was gained is not provided.

PHYSICAL CLASS II Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort including occasional light lifting to a 10pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*For this examination lead experience is defined as assigning coordinating and reviewing the work ensuring proper work methods are followed and providing technical assistance and training.
