Job Description
Systems Integration and Test Facility (SITF) Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) HardwareintheLoop facility (HWIL) and the Software Development Facilities (SDFs) that will be used to verify the integrated avionics system for the Space Launch System (SLS) at NASA s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). The position requires expertise in assembly testing troubleshooting and some limited design skill that would be relevant in supporting distributed computing and simulation laboratories integration tasks and development activities. The position will require personnel certification in operations including Electrostatic Discharge Cabling Operator and Crimping Operator.
Responsibilities:
Perform software/hardware integration activities as required:
- Support systems integration functions
- Support software/hardware integration troubleshooting and bugfix activities
- Develop and execute test plans and procedures
- Enter or update documentation into appropriate control system
- Troubleshoot simulation anomalies
- Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to ensure products meet performance goals
- Provide weekly written and oral status reports in a meeting setting
- Troubleshooting and development Linux based operating systems.
- Utilize Software Development Language to assist with troubleshooting
- Usage of a 1553 relay
- Create and Interpret Engineering Drawings and Schematics
These activities will be ongoing as the launch vehicle architecture matures and the SLS program completes programphases reviews and schedule milestones.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office and shop environment. Requires ability to provide clear concise accurate and timely communication both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with coworkers management and client (100%). May require limited travel.
Physical Requirements:
Requires lifting of sometimes heavy (up to 40 pounds per person) computer systems and associated hardware when building up or maintaining systems (10%). Requires climbing a ladder or operating a vertical lift (up to 15 feet) to work on the avionics lab structure (25%). Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers management and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (20%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and other facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer a telephone fax machine copier calculator and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday 7:304:30 Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to make rational decisions and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
Requirements
A degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 9 years of experience; Masters with at least 13 years of experience or a BS with at least 15 years of experience.
Desired skills/experience:
- Experience in electronic hardware assembly and test.
- Experience in troubleshooting flight like bus interfaces such as MILSTD 1553B RS422 RS485 Compact PCI PCI
- Express Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Discretes AnalogDigital DigitalAnalog etc. in support of launch vehicle avionics HWIL systems integration and test.
- Selfmotivated team player familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.
- Experience with cable routing and cable testing is highly desired.
- Experience writing and executing test procedures performing electrical fabrication and assembly based on verbal or written input and performing troubleshooting of hardware installations is highly desired.
- Ability to determine a software fault and system level source of a software fault.
- Ability to obtain/maintain certifications for various activities such as Overhead Crane/Hoist Program Critical Hardware/ Manual Move Electrostatic Discharge Scissor Lift Aerial Platform and Forklift.
- Familiarity with NASA quality control policies and procedures.
- Experience in computer rack development buildup installation and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Linux based operating systems.
- Experience with a Software Development Language
- Experience working with models and simulations of launch vehicle subsystems and avionics hardware in support of launch vehicle avionics HWIL systems integration and test.
- Knowledge of systems engineering processes and procedures in disciplines such as hardware and software integration requirements development verification and validation and testing.
