Applications are invited from Constables for a vacancy for the post of Source Handlers within the West Midlands Police Dedicated Source Unit. The role is currently based near to Birmingham city centre applicants will need to appreciate that they can be posted anywhere within the Force area and will be required to perform on call duties.
Applicants will need to have the highest levels of integrity communication and report writing skills. You will be expected to demonstrate a broad operational and investigative background and be highly motivated. An understanding of the intelligence process is fundamental to the role.
The post is both challenging and rewarding and carries a high level of responsibility.
Applicants will be responsible for ensuring performance is in line with the Force priorities whilst ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and the law.
Key Accountabilities
Recruit develop and handle covert human intelligence sources to ensure compliance with relevant legislation policies and authorisations and to meet strategic priorities.
Complete risk assessments that are comprehensive and reflect circumstances of the CHIS use ensuring operational security is maintained.
Implement cover stories and compromise strategies that maintain the covert infrastructure and ensure that all meetings and contact with sources are correctly authorised as in accordance with RIPA and codes of practice.
Collate evaluate and sanitise information supplied by the source in a timely manner in order to direct operational activity and ensure reward and benefit applications are completed accurately.

Vetting:Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Medical: Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.

Selection Process:
Selection will be through paper sift assessment interview and SC Enhanced Vetting. Officers will be expected to attend the threeweek handler core skills course as well as being required to provide a drug and alcohol test.
