THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL ASSEMBLEDEXAMINATION.The eligible list resulting from thisexamination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one yearbut can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current county employees andhave completed the equivalent of six months of continuous service following aregular appointment in the Alameda County classified service (nonclassifiedincludes the District Attorneys Office the Medical Center and the SuperiorCourt) by the last of filing. A regular appointment does not includeprovisional TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool) or STEPUP appointments.

The Alameda County Social Services Agency (SSA) iscomprised of 2400 men and women working collectively and in partnership withcommunitybased organizations to serve the needs of the community. Services areprovided through four departments: Administration and Finance Adult and AgingServices Children and Family Services and Workforce and BenefitsAdministration.
THE POSITION:
This is the supervisory level of the Employment Counselorseries. Incumbents are assigned supervision of a group of EmploymentCounselors who manage and counsel clients and facilitate and monitor theirprogress toward selfsufficiency through employment services that may includetraining activities; conduct orientation and appraisals; determine eligibility;evaluate test results and employment goals. Positions of EmploymentCounselor Supervisor are found in the Social Services Agency. EmploymentCounselor Supervisors are distinguished from Social Work Supervisors in thatEmployment Counselor Supervisors are responsible for supervision of a group ofcounselors or similar classifications who determine public assistanceeligibility make referrals manage clients progress through an employmentprogram that may include training activities and provide goaldirectedcounseling and casework.
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of three (3) years of fulltime experienceas an Employment Counselor or an equivalent or higher level employment serviceposition in the Alameda County classified service.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of three (3) years of fulltime experienceas a Supervising Eligibility Technician or an equivalent or higher level socialservice supervisory position in the Alameda County classified service.
OR III
Experience:
The equivalent of three (3) years of fulltime experiencein a supervisory capacity for staff engaged in employmentrelated casemanagement employment counseling determining eligibility or in providingemploymentrelated services in a recognized public or private agency.
Substitution:Possession of an Associates degree in sociology socialpsychology vocational counseling or a closely related social science field maybe substituted for one (1) year of experience in patterns II or III above.
License:Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle OperatorsLicense is required.

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OFthefollowing steps: 1) A review of candidates applications to verify possessionof minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirementsfor the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. 2) An oralinterview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates final examinationscore. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.
